LOL....with the money associated with being drafted in the sixth round it would likely have cost more to deal with attorneys than it was worth.

I am not familiar with how much this comes up. Do other teams push a hard line on this as well? Or are the Titans in the minority on this?

I see the principle behind this, but I also agree with someone earlier who said that the amount of $$ on the table has been significantly reduced as part of the 2011 CBA. I just hope that we are not being unusually "miserly" with this, and that what we are doing is consistent with what most other teams do.

I want to know how many of you would hire someone to do a job for you and guarantee their pay?

Let's say you were having a house built. You seek out a contractor that you hear does good work... A few months in you realize the house is complete **** and the guy barely shows up and has been dragging the process out for way too long. Would you pay him his money to go away and then pay another contractor to build the house? I'm going to guess NO. But you would have to pay him for the work that has been done. And you'd never agree to pay the full price even if the house didn't get finished. It's not just good business sense, but common sense, IMO.

Its a mixed bag. This year the first pick has offset language and the 3rd pick doesn't. It usually comes down to whether the team has the leverage to push for it based on draft position and the contracts of others picked around them.

This organization is cheap, pathetic and I am getting real sick and tired of this sh**! If you cared about winning more than anything you pay the man and get him in camp to start getting ready. If he misses any camp time and this season goes to waste it all goes on the front office cause they fail at what they do! I understand this is a business but you have to pay the players if you want them to play. I can't blame Mariota for the way he feels and good for him being honest now then signing and being disgruntled later on. I would want that off set language out of the contract as well. F***** A! We always have to make things this difficult.

Hard to really compare this to football lol. BTW the NFL is lucky where all MLB contracts are guaranteed money and I have seen teams pay players to walk away! If MLB players get guaranteed contracts to play a less physical sport, NFL players should get something then imo!

What happens if we trade him before the contract is up? Depends on team trading for him? They could eat the remaining $?

Not really. They're still buying a product. They're paying for a skill. If the play isn't up to standards, why should they have to pay if they fire them? You hire a skilled carpenter to build a house. You don't pay if you fire them because their skill isn't up to par with the job you expected.

If I understand it all correctly, it would be the same as him being cut. A guaranteed contract with no offset is just that, guaranteed no matter what. Which means both teams pay him.
