Currently I am doing a combo of Planet Fitness and the weight room at my apartment... Weight room has free weights unlike PF.

I was at The Rush (Gold's) when I was in Knoxville, but my only options where I'm at now are PF and the Y. Already did the Y, and it sucked even more than PF for at least three times the cost.

There are still plenty of meatheads at PF. I don't think the staff really cares or sounds the alarm unless you're clearly an attention whore. I've breathed "loudly" and dropped weights. Nothing has happened.

It may be stupid that they give out pizza and attract fat lazy people, but you don't have to eat the pizza and be lazy there. That's a choice.

I'd prefer to be at Gold's if there was one nearby just because they have more equipment and free weights, but it's not the end of the world for just $10 a month.

If you are talking about the usual planet fitness member than I agree.

But there are plenty of benefits to the gym for anyone taking their fitness even halfway seriously.

The social aspect is a lot of motivation for a lot of people. It's much easier to go work out with friends and strangers all working around you than it is to get motivated for a living room workout.

    Coaching is a big one.

The biggest thing though is the idea that you can get in shape with just body weight stuff.

It's true, but it's about like saying you can buy that high end sportscar with the money from your lemonade stand.

The amount of push ups you would have to do to equate with 15 minutes of bench press is not going to make anyone who is actually serious about adding muscle and changing their body think twice about 15 bucks a month for a gym membership.

I guess that just depends on how much you weigh. If you weigh 200+, it's quite similar to lifting decently heavy weights.

Even if someone weighs 150, quite a few body weight workouts can pack on muscle and help get in shape. No way you could tell me it wouldn't work, just because most people won't try it.

How is the quality of the pizza? Do you get it every time you go in? Is there a limit on slices?

I think the $10 per month would be worth it just for the free dinner every night.

When I lived in Nashville I would work out at a place called Arm-o's or something like that . Just wondering if the old place is still there.
