Basically this Benjamin Albright guy was lied to by his sources.

This was the same guy who pretended to know what our top 5 big board looked like for the draft.

I dont think he made it up or was lied to, I think there could be some truth to this. What keeps me from really thinking this was a possibility is Houstons cap situation. Even before FA they were tight for money, then they wanted to add a $17M/yr player? IDK seems dumb to pursue for them, then again they did sign Brian Hoyer, so who knows...

But of course Denver has to deny this, what does it say to the team if they own the rumor.... Nothing good..

Albright taking his story to the radio in a few hours.... If he were lying about the whole thing wouldn't he quietly let it fade away?

Perhaps the Bronco's approached Manning with their intent to move on from him? Maybe they told him he was in danger of getting cut or benched this season?

If that is the case, then maybe Peyton could waive the 'no trade clause in his contract'

The salary is too steep for the Texans to take on, but perhaps Manning was willing to re-work his deal in order to contend for another SB? Its not like he needs the money, he just wants the stats and a ring at this point.

Of course, the trade didn't happen, so either of these scenarios could've been a sticking point to 1 or all sides (Broncos, Manning, Texans).

or maybe he just made all this BS up to get some attention.

I think when players age more they want to be compensated more for what they have done in the past, making it more about the money than the general public thinks. It might not be the case for all players, but recently the ones that come to mind to me are Kobe Bryant and Dwayne Wade, who are not necessarily looking for championships anymore and don't "need the money" but still want to get paid for their services and make every possible dollar that they feel they deserve.

I wonder if Peyton would take a pay cut to be on a contender... I personally don't think he would at this age. I wouldn't if I was in his shoes.

All Peyton is now is a tired arm. His days are numbered.

I both agree and disagree with your statement.

I don't think Peyton is looking for money at all. It is all about his legacy at this point. He wants to cement himself in the record books, and I don't think he is satisfied at all with his lone SB ring.

However, I agree that he might want to be paid for what he has done in the past ... not because he is looking to make every penny he can, but because his ego is too big. Peyton probably doesn't view himself as other teams will. He will think his value is higher than it really is b/c of who he is. I don't think his ego would allow him not to be one of the top paid players.

Not for the love of the money, but for the love of himself.
