Accept one of those retirees (after 4 years) was a QB drafted #8 overall... so the "under 5 years rule" doesn't apply. No excuses for that.

Don't get me wrong, it is bad that he retired, but the 5 year rule is including all players.. if you only tallied up 4th-7th round picks, it would be more like an average of 1-2 years.

JL was a pathetic pick.. If you have accuracy issues in college, they don't often correct themselves in the NFL.

Barry Sanders carried that team to multiple playoffs they didn't deserve to be in. They decided to rebuild and he wanted a trade to not waste his renaming years in a rebuild. When a guy carries your franchise for a decade, that's the least they could have done. Instead they didn't, so he retired instead of playing in a position he was unhappy in.

No doubt in my mind he'd own most rushing records. He played with so much respect, you just don't see it anymore. He never celebrated touchdowns, his 30 for 30 was very well done.

That's why he's a quitter... 2 years into a 6 year deal he wanted to give half his signing bonus back to be released and play with someone else. He wasn't done with football. He was a part of that horrible team as well before signing.

He eventually lost the arbitration case and had to pay some back plus he never played again. I do think he's one of the best to ever play and like him as a player. I respect him for not half assing it as well, still the definition of a quitter though. He literally quit on his current team.

When you quit you go find other work. When you retire you leave your field altogether.

A rebuild takes 3-4 years if it's actually successful. So by the time they're actually ready to get back into the playoffs his deal is over anyway. Hence asking for a trade, where I'm sure they could have really sped up the rebuild opposed to him retiring. They weren't the best team to him, can't say I blame him.

    Yeah I read @CalgaryTitansFan 's post.

Not the biggest Lion fan. I remembered him quitting.

Wow...that has to be some sort of record for most players retiring in an offseason.
The 9ers have spiraled flat on their faces in a very short time. It would be a miracle if they're competitive this season.
