The black and white aspect could've been pretty cool. Silent would seem like a very strange choice to me (of course I haven't seen the movie yet). Regardless though, making not only one but two of those stylistic choices would've no doubt resulted in massive box office failure.

Finally watched Interstellar. I've read a lot of mixed opinions but I loved it.

I was disappointed with Birdman. Like you, I can definitely appreciate the aesthetics and production value of the film but IDK the story just didn't really resonate with me. I feel it was a bit indulgent and pretentious. Not surprised the Academy ate it up.

10 years from now when I think back on that film I'll remember the cool tracking shots and the stellar acting... the story not so much.

Whiplash is on my shortlist. Hope to watch it sometime within the next week or so.

I only got into Birdman just because everyone said the Edward Norton character was me.

    Minus the boner issues.

And I still can't figure out if it's a good or bad thing.

Michael Keaton makes my head hurt watching him try to act though. You can see the gears turning in his head the entire time... like "is this my line?"

Well there's not really much to the dialogue. Some scenes almost seem like they were shot to be silent.

Watched American Sniper tonight. Certainly nothing groundbreaking but I thought it was a good flick.

Anyone seen The Gambler (the, gasp, remake version)? I thought the trailer looked decent but the reviews seem to be pretty mediocre.

Interstellar and Nightcrawler are about the last two recent movies I feel like I need to see at this point.

I read Nightcrawler is coming to Netflix next month, so I'll hold off for now.

Interstellar I need to really commit to since it's so long, and I suck with physics.

Nightcrawler was probably my favorite movie from last year.

Yeah the length is what kept me from seeing Interstellar for awhile. A lot of times movies that are 2.5+ hours can feel like a chore. But Interstellar didn't feel as long as it was.

Buy the book "The Science of Interstellar" by Kip Thorne. A must read if you really want to understand what is happening in the movie.
