This guy really reminds me of Antonio Brown.

Very similar circumstances around how and where they were drafted.

Both small school guys, who are very smooth, great route runners and are more quick than fast.

Both have legit kick return abilities.

Both came out of nowhere to impress at the combine.

Both drafted late in the draft.

AB really benefited from the complete lack of talent in Pittsburgh at the receiver position, namely no true #1 on the team. He make the best of his opportunity and has flourished. I'm not sure TMcB is going to enjoy the same opportunity with all of the receivers on our roster, which is too bad.

I agree...I think you might be surprised though. Give this kid a year or two with his efforts and I could see him taking over Nicks, Douglas, and Hunter...It's a big IF, but I could see it.

I say just give him the returner duties if nothing else. That way we can justify keeping 5 WRs active on Sundays and not have to use a spot just for a returner. Nice insurance to have if one of our top 4 guys goes down.

I would disagree about Pittsburgh having a lack of talent.

AB was apart of their receiving core when they had Mike Wallace and Emanuel Sanders, along with a reliable vet in Heath Miller at TE.

Emanuel, Mike, and AB all eventually got paid. We have Kendall?? and I guess Harry, but he has been a number 2-3 guy his entire career. Hunter has yet to show he can play in the NFL. DGB is a rookie, absolutely nothing guaranteed with him.

    I'm hoping our future is:

    WR1: Dorial Green-Beckham
    WR2: Tre McBride
    SLOT: Kendall Wright
w/ Douglas the "vet" off the bench, that can play any position when somebody needs a rest

I think McBride has the skill, he now has a chip on his shoulder, fact is... he's average height/speed, but he's a good route runner and can attack the ball. I think he can be a mix of a Greg Jennings/Michael Crabtree. Successful #2 WR. He's got some work to do, but his potential is legit.

You have to remember that all those guys, together, were all basically rookies at the time. So none of them were established really, although Wallace was clearly their #1. That said, none of them were true number 1's in the modern sense. I think when they drafted Sweed, they envisioned him being their main guy, a big guy that Wallace could compliment. And let's be honest, Emanuel struggled to get on the field as a 3 back then, Manning has made him much better than he ever was in Pittsburgh.

To me, strictly based on talent. Remember they had a Rapelithsberger and our QB's have been pure crap during the same period.

Wright, Hunter, DGB, McBride > Sweed, Emanuel, Wallace, AB

We rarely saw 4WR sets last year, can't see Whiz burning a roster spot on a 6th WR
