Lol. These are pretty regular now. QB with 4000 yards. Improvement. Good team guy. They bought in. Retooled the offense and gave him an extension just like we should do if we ever find a QB... See how that hinges on everything? Finding a QB?

No one has mentioned that the $96mil means nothing.

It's all about the structure. And from what I understand it would be along the lines of a 1 year/$21mil extension.

All these average QBs (Dalton, Kaep, Tannehill) signing $100mil contracts are not going to see all of that money. Players can sign these massive deals and get cut the next season. There's little guarantee in NFL contracts. Even the "guaranteed" money is likely not fully guaranteed.

Flacco's deal was a bit different and was a stronger commitment (because he threw 12 TDs/0 INTs in the playoffs and got them a ring)... but if he has a bad year this year, they'll have no choice but to release him (or just suffer miserably. I think he's due $30mil+ next season.

Tannehill and Suh's cap hit for next season will be 40 million.

It's a "QB". We as any franchise should know you ain't going no where without one.

Tannehill is still only 27, a big bodied QB with room to grow.

When you have one you gotta lock him up.

Exactly. Tannehill only got $21.5M in true guarantees. That's the going rate for a middle-of-the-road starting QB.

If he flames out, the Dolphins can easily get out from under the deal, just like the 49ers with Kaepernick and Bengals with Dalton.

I don't see how the Dolphins had any choice but to do this deal. No other way for them to get a QB comparable to Tannehill right now.

Yeah the deal isn't nearly as bad as it seems at first glance. I'm no Tannehill fan but I think Miami was smart to do this deal now. They have added some weapons to that offense and with Tannehill entering year four if he's gonna take his game to the next level I think it's likely to be this year. So they possibly saved themselves a good chunk of money by going ahead and doing the deal now.

They had to pay somebody. They can pay Tanny or they can release him and draft an unknown. But they still have to pay someone. I heard the other day that the top 10 QBRs from last year came from QBs that were over 30 years of age. If you have a guy that's improving, you have to hold on to them. Let them mature, and maybe you'll have an elite guy.

The Fins had to do this contract. That or trade him off and start over. This was not a good draft for 2nd tier QBs. they would have to trade up from 14th to 2nd to get a guy potentially better.

So what if the fins offered us a deal involving their 14th pick and Tannehill for our 2nd pick? Add a third rd pick and another third next year and i do that deal.

According to those nerds at PFF Tannehill had a higher rating overall than Peyton Manning, Russell Wilson, and Joe Flacco, so yes I would take that trade as well. I like Mariota a lot, but its hard to say for sure what he'll become, Id trade a potential franchise QB for a sure thing and the 14th overall as well and their next two 3rd rounders...
