Historically, they don't. Go check all the rookies recently and compare their talents to Mariota.

 

Let's not be too harsh on Mettenberger.

1. He was playing behind the worst O line in the league
2. He had no running game to help
3. Play calling was terrible
4. We were always playing from behind

For a so called statue he moved enough to create time for himself and he was getting better with each game.

We still have no RT. Poutasi could be a great Guard but his reviews as a Tackle rated him like Oher. Byron Bell is Oher 2.0, we just swapped one liability for another. If Levitre starts at LG then nothing has changed. Mobile or not Mariota will get killed by our line just like all the other QB's that we lined up last season.

 

As someone who grew up in a very cold climate then moved to a place hotter and more humid than the South for a time I can say it is easier to adjust than you might think. It actually surprised me how easier it was for me to adjust. A young man who is in great shape should not have too much difficulty.

I'm curious to see how his accuracy dips when he has to put more arm in its not a HUGE issue at this point
