wait...why would whiz have to adapt? mariota was touted as a qb who transcends any system due to his super brain and superior work ethic and ran a super complex oregon offense and fit perfectly to what whiz does.

that was what was said predraft...now hes drafted and we have to adapt the system...

there was a rookie qb who didnt need a system change and put up pretty impressive numbers/throws last year...if only we didnt need to sell tickets we coulda seen what he had in him

I also love how every doubter brings up the spread offense he ran in Oregon.

Do people realize that the spread offense has become a huge part of NFL offenses? How the reigning superbowl champs use it a ton? Same with Aaron Rodgers and the Packers? ect ect

But Florida State run purely an NFL offense! Helped EJ Manuel and Christian Ponder transition to the league flawlessly!

The reason people like Rodgers, Brady, Manning, etc. get away with running the spread and majority of the time in shotgun is because they are very cerebral, so they don't need to exactly go under center often to keep defenses guessing if they are gonna run, pass or disguise play calling through whatever formation they're running.

Teams know those QBs are gonna pass, and they still can't stop it.

Also Whiz likes running a power run game. Shotgun isn't exactly the greatest formation when trying to establish that.

If Mariota is as smart and has an insane photographic memory as the coaches, front office, and pundits say. He will have his rookie moments, but I think learning a new offense will actually benefit him more in the early stages of his career than just trying to run a bunch of spread offense plays.

Mariota is very intelligent, extremely athletic, phenomenal work ethic, good passing and using his legs to extend plays, constantly in playbook and watching film to try and improve, high character guy who avoids social media and nightlife, etc. When it is all said and done Mariota has all the physical and mental tools you'd want in a QB. I don’t see a single red flag when evaluating him. Who wouldn't want a QB like Mariota just coming out of the draft and ready to start a career?

Yes i still like Mett a lot but i think Mariota is the real deal if Whisenhunt will coach him right and let him be himself. Hoping Mett will be able to stay as backup. If that happens the QB situation will look good. Mett would be able to come in if there were an injury with not too much drop off in production. One good thing about Mariota he has worked on sliding so he doesn't end up having an injury like Locker almost did trying to run the ball full speed ahead like he did against Cleveland they nearly took his head off on that play.

Um, Can you name me a coach who doesn't adapt his offense to cater a rookie quarteback?

I'll take it a step further,

Can you name any good coach in professional sports who DOESN'T adapt to the specific talent he has?

Like everyone did with Whiz last year?

Funny how this only applies when talking about Mariota, but last year everyone wanted to **** on Whiz after his first year here.

Consistency. Too much to ask for? People are cherry picking this argument when it benefits them, while ignoring their comments from last year.
