IMO, they should let Cobb wear #27..

It's not a retired number, and honestly.. if he thinks he can shoulder the load of taking on that number for the Tennessee Titans, then more power to him. Especially seeing that George was a role model for him, it could be great for this franchise.. and a way for it to move on past clinging onto the "glory days" and moving onto the future

Retiring numbers, especially for non HOF players, is kind of silly to me.

I think it's cool for younger players to take a previously used number, and try to live up to it.

They should keep #89, 27, and even #9 free, IMO

These players are not "retired number" worthy. I could see the only possible exception being McNair, but to me, that's questionable.

    Nope.

If he was a highly drafted guy, maybe, but given our history of mid-round RB picks being horrible, no.

what value is there in leaving #27 alone for years? George was a great back for a few years.. why does that justify leaving that number alone for all eternity? If he has the gumption to dare take that number on as a RB for the Titans, then good for him.

Jared Cook wore #89.. nobody thinks less of Wycheck, or that number because of it.

Let him have 27...EG can be recognized by a banner or something else in the stadium. He's not in the HOF so personally I think the # should be open.
9 may be a little different because McNair has passed away.

I think we are all going to love cobb. If he had not run (injured by the way) at the combine, he would not have been around in the fifth round. He is more of a 4.6 guy not a 4.8 guy. It was one of the few value picks we got past the 2nd round

I'm not for retiring numbers unless the player was truly special. But let 27 go to someone who will be worth a damn.

David Cobb is going to be another in the long line of mid-round RB picks that amounted to nothing for this franchise.

Who was it we drafted that turned down #27 years ago? DB maybe? I remember whoever it was saying "those are some big shoes to fill"

I can be ok with #9.. it's a number in the 1-10 category.. only QBs/K/P can use them, and there is never a lack of numbers there. IMO, you have to be Earl Campbell good to get your number retired. George was a good player, but not All-Time good by any standard.

there's no telling if anyone we draft will be worth a damn. Sankey, Harper, and Chris Henry have been our highest RB picks not named Chris Johnson.. and they both have been/were horrible.

Would it be ok to let Sankey wear it, if he wanted to, because he was the first RB taken? Sankey has been a huge disappointment so far.

No, because it was clear to the entire world outside of the Titans' facility that Bishop Sankey was ass. I had to look up his number last year because I couldn't remember what he wore, that's how irrelevant he was and will continue to be.

If he stays healthy, Marcus Mariota will be our leading rusher in 2015. He should wear 27.
