I think we are going to pound the ball relentlessly....Fowler (big back, great blocker), Cobb (Chain mover--Solid back), Sankey (receiving back/outside runs), Big Guard added in Poutasi that moves people, etc....It's a smart plan. Rest the D, take pressure off of Mariota, and gain time of possession. Add a guy like DGB that is a mismatch and this could be fun.

Exactly....Kind of boring, not the most exciting, but effective. I will take it any day! Seahawks had ZERO receivers and did just fine last time I checked.

Well it's important with a rookie QB and important with Mett who is not as mobile . Good plan.

Yeah I really think this is the case as well. I'm not going to say that Whiz 'tanked' this season, but I do think he purposefully didn't play to players strengths. Getting the #2 pick was just gravy.

I understand that strategy though. It accelerates how fast the team can complete the transition to the new scheme. Rather than slowly switching schemes, might as well throw it all on them and see who adapts and who doesn't. Then we can quickly identify the players that don't fit and replace them.

I also don't think Whiz was ever that high on Locker. I think he gave Locker a shot to come out and prove him wrong, but Whiz wasn't going to adapt to fit Locker because he probably wanted his own QB ... why adapt the system to fit the skill set of a QB you won't have in a year anyway?

And let's face it, we needed to tear it down. We had been putting band aids on it for a few years. And yes, it sure wasn't pretty. Now let's move forward and grow.

We should've blew it all up when Fisher left. But Bud was desperate and didn't have time on his side for a complete rebuild.

I have seen Mariota be smart about sliding, so I don't expect that will be difficult for him in the NFL

I thought I heard somewhere he was getting with the Oregon's baseball coach and teaching him to slide properly. Not sure if true or not.

When I was scouting Mariota and projecting how he'd do in the pros I discarded all the option stuff. Like you said, it can work, but not for long in the NFL.

I think play-action will become a big part of our offense similar to Baltimore and Seattle.
