What we thought about Locker, vs. what we think about Mariota

    I mentioned this in another thread, but I think we were more acceptable of Locker because what we had before - VY and Hasselbeck. We were ready for a young conventional QB especially one with good work ethic. As others have said, if it wasn't for his injuries, he would've probably been better.

    Obviously the injuries slowed the growing process down some, but Locker was awkward at QB. Gotta remember what he was doing in high school wasn't at all what NFL QB's are doing. And then for some time in college he was still able to over power and outrun defenders. You cant get away with that at all in the NFL.

    What keeps Mariota from being Locker is 1.) pocket awareness, and 2.) accuracy. Marcus Mariota was born with intangible QB skills, Jake Locker was a converted Wing-T QB, HUGE difference in what Mariota has been doing at Oregon..

    How can a quarterback such as Mariota have issues like Locker did coming out of college? Just check out these videos: Marcus Mariota Highlight Videos | FishDuck
    I believe it's Mariota's speed and ability to escape pressure in the pocket that defines how amazing of a player he truly is.

    exactly. Having a VY with the ability and willingness to adapt/learn/adjust, without all of the stupidity and arrogance, AND without the silly sidearm throwing motion (AFAIK)

    Doesn't sound like the worst thing in the world.
    Sounds like he's just like VY, except for everything that made him VY.
