With pick #2 of the 2015 NFL Draft, the Tennessee Titans select: Marcus Mariota, QB, Oregon

Remember that time ol Jake was playing 7 on 7 and he took off running???....

 

Really excited Marcus is now a Titan. Marcus will put the work into turning the Titans around

 

Awesome pick, and I love that Whiz went balls out to protect him, beef up the running game, and grab him some weapons. Next year, we can roll Defense hopefully, and the Offense SHOULD be vastly improved.

and learn to master how and when to slide!

I'm with you here. I think we may get to 7-9 or 8-8 this year, then can build our defense next draft and have a shot at the playoffs. We're definitely a better team that we were at the end of last season.

 

I didn't expect to love the Mariota pick as much as I did, even though he was one of my favorite players in the draft. What I wasn't expecting with this pick, was how immediately relevant it made our team again. We had been boring and irrelevant for years and with one draft pick that is over, and people are actually talking about us again, and it feels good.

It's also nice to have a QB that you like, who actually has the skills to succeed. As much as I supported Locker, I knew he was inaccurate but would never admit it. With Marcus, not only is he more accurate, he also doesn't have a long list of injuries in his history. And with as much as he ran in college, that's amazing and encouraging.

Marcus Mariota is the quarterback for the Tennessee Titans. That felt so good to type!

 

The whole "system QB" thing for Mariota is lazy analysis. There is a reason all of the better analysts in the sport love the kid and how most of them had him rated higher than Winston.

Also, Per PFF,
Mariota (64 attempts) 4th in deep passing accuracy, Winston (56 attempts) 19th.
Mariota (135 drop backs) 2nd in under pressure accuracy, Winston (148 drop backs) 6th.

As far as the Rodgers comparison, I'm clearly not comparing him to current day Rodgers, which is why I said a "young Aaron Rodgers". Aaron was raw coming out of college and was not the player he was today. He improved a hell of a lot and learned under a good coach. Both are very athletic,smart qbs that extend plays with their elusiveness. Both had great production in college, but I think Mariota, like Rodgers, will surprise people with his passing ability in the pros.

 

Exactly...They go all out on D next year, so long as the Offense stays healthy etc and produces, we have a shot at being a playoff team in 2017.. That would be an awesome turn around.

 

I've heard some people wondering why we didn't get more defensive players during the draft. As you said, I'm glad they helped MM with additional offensive players. Our defense wasn't really that bad out of the gates. Yea they did always let the other team score easily at first, but they held on. There were some games our defense was playing lights out, but eventually wore themselves out being on the field so much. All of those 3 and outs during a game will put a toll on the defense.

Let's hope the offense can stay on the field longer and give our defense a break. I agree, go defense next years draft.
