And his agent is an idiot for not realizing his client is a 6th round pick who has never won a game and has zero leverage here. And also should've had the foresight to realize how this would make Mett look in the eyes of the fans.

It was a dumb move avvie, regardless of whose idea it was.

Mett you will be the back up here for 3 more years on your 6th round deal. Get used to it! Glad your the back up and not clipboard.

    Really?

What happened? Whiz already said it wasn't a competition. Mariota is the starter.

That's what happened to COMPETING. He's not competing and has no chance to beat out Mariota.

If his agent did something like this without Mett's knowledge, Mett should whack him since it is a stupid and unnecessary PR issue.

If not, Mett needs to clean up the little mess that his agent made IMO.

Come on....I take draft day language about who starts with a grain of salt.

So you think that, if Mariota comes here and looks lost in the woods, that he gets the nod? How about if he starts a couple of games and throws something like 8 interceptions? I think not.

Mett is going to get a shot here, whether it be by replacing a struggling Mariota (not uncommon to happen to rookie in his first season) or an injured Mariota IMO. That is where he can demonstrate the value needed to make his agent's stance here valid.

Still doesn't change the fact that he has no leverage here. And regardless that's just not what team players do. You don't take your ball and go home just because you won't be the immediate starter. Maybe if you're Tom Brady or Peyton Manning you have that kind of cachet. Certainly not if you're Zach freaking Mettenberger.

This is bush league, plain and simple. Whether it came from Zach or his agent it was bush league. If Zach didn't condone it then he should fire his agent for making him look like such a colossal @$$hole.

And again I reiterate, he has just as good of a chance to "make it" here than he does anywhere else in the league. Mariota has plenty of question marks and certainly could bust out. He also could go down to major injury at some point. If you believe you're the best then suck it up and prove it.

I absolutely believe that. Locker vs Hass "open competition" all over again.

This pick is about excitement. Bringing a face of the team to Nashville. He's the poster boy. Even joking about naming a spread, one read QB the starter already tells me that this is a business decision. It's not a football decision.

I tried to get excited about the pick. I really did. I went back and watched the same stuff I have watched all off season, trying to get excited. I saw the same thing I saw all off season as I was watching him.

Mariota may put it all together and for the sake of the team, I hope he does. Everyone bashed Whiz, RW, and the front office all year last year and during the off season. Now they pick a guy that they apparently have wanted for a while and people are giddy about it.

I want to win. I don't care about ticket sales. Winning brings that excitement.

We drafted another project QB. One that has to learn how to look at the whole field now. One that has to learn to go through progressions on every play. One where the ball will have to fit into tight windows. Mariota has not had to do that his entire career.

I'd love to be wrong. I really would. This just screams "we need butts in the seats."

That's the point. He can't and won't be able to prove it. I replied because he said "what happened to Mett saying he could beat out the pick."

He's not going to get that chance.

I was specifically addressing that question.

Take a look at the poll. I just did. Exactly 50% of those voting are happy about the pick. That is not quite to the level of "giddiness" that you say above. The other 50% is split between wait/see and no. I am in the "wait and see" camp btw.

I have concerns about him as well, very similar to your concerns. But I really do not think that MM gets an infinite rope here. If he struggles he will get pulled. If he is not ready he will not play.

That said, if I am wrong and he does play before being ready, I will be truly pissed, not just because of the win/loss thing, but also because I believe that we could ruin MM by doing that. That would be unforgivable IMO.

Guys... Guys. Who gives a **** what a 6th round QB wants?

He can sit the bench. Not show up to camp, who cares?
