With current ownership, I just get memories of the draft day episode of "Coach" back in the day. #1 pick overall, which the owner sells to Jerry Jones for some land holdings or something stupid like that.

Obviously just speculating here. But I really get the feeling we like Mariota at 2 but would trade back for a too good to pass up deal, or a "history deal" as Chris Johnson might say.

Even disregarding his mediocre on the field performance last year, I just have a tough time seeing Zach Mettenberger as the kind of guy Whis wants leading this team. Whisenhunt comes off as a very serious, no nonsense kind of guy. And Mett pretty much seems like the complete opposite of that.

Admittedly, I'm probably reading too much into off the field personality but I still can't help but think he'd rather hitch his wagon to a guy with Mariota's personality and demeanor than Mettenberger's. Mariota just seems much more serious and less likely to do something stupid or embarrassing to the organization, so I could easily see why Whis could be heavily leaning toward Mariota.

Why not? Take a swing. We'll still get a good player at #33.

Mariota > Cooper > too good to pass up deal

For some reason we stick with Mett, we would have to bring in someone else to compete with him. It would be a waste of a pick if they draft a mid-late rounder QB. My questions is, which vet would they bring in to compete with Mett? That's why I think Mariota could be the pick.

Another thing I find myself thinking about as the draft nears...... if Tampa takes Mariota does that just completely and totally screw us?

Would any of those same teams interested in trading up for Mariota still be willing to trade up for Winston? I'd think Cleveland and Philly would definitely be out (Cleveland because Winston is too big of a character risk only one year removed from the Manziel debacle, and Philly for obvious reasons). If no good trade offers were coming in is our FO really comfortable in taking Winston? Or are they scared off by the potential headache?

Personally I think the talent potential is so high you need to go ahead and take him and just cross your fingers. But that's easy to say when your job isn't on the line.

If that happens. Titans would just select James Winslow

This reasoning is nonsense. You can still build a quality team if you bust on a qb pick. The Titans aren't bad because Locker was bad and the Titans actually had one of their best seasons in a long time just a few years after drafting VY. If you build a good team around a bust qb you can bring in a guy like Collins and succeed. But if you hit on a young qb you can sustain winning teams based on that player alone. It's worth the shot to swing on the one position that can carry an entire team.

Also they are paid to almost nothing in the first 4 years if they end up panning out. Look at Russell Wilson, best money spent for what his rookie contract is right now.

on the other side of that if so many teams want him that bad maybe we should draft him ourselves?
