I hate to agree with this since I hate the guy so much. We could easily fill in the holes for a couple years on both sides through the draft while having Rivers as QB. Also develop a QB behind Rivers, if it's Mett or not.

Just heard about a trade scenario I hadn't thought of.

What if Washington REALLY wants Leonard Williams? They offer us their 2nd this year to move to #5. JAX and OAK both have QB's, so JAX takes Fowler and OAK takes Cooper. At #5, having already gotten an extra 2nd round pick, we still get Mariota.

    Sounds pretty sweet to me.

In a perfect world yes, but there is still a possibility someone could trade with JAX or OAK to get Mariota (Jets, Eagles, Browns) then we're sitting there at #5 saying...wtf?

If we really want Mariota, we should go ahead and get him at #2.

I see what you're saying though, that would be nice if that did work out.

    From Tennessean article...

The Chargers say Rivers is still their quarterback, and when all is said and done, he may stay put. But I think he could be had for the right price.

Headed into the final year of his contract, Rivers has made it clear he's not interested in signing an extension because the Chargers could move to Los Angeles. The last thing they want is to be left empty-handed after the 2015 season. So if the Chargers want to move up in the draft order to pick Mariota, this is their chance.
But what would it take? I don't think the Titans would trade the No. 2 pick for Rivers. Yes, he's a proven quarterback, but he's 33 and they would have to sign him for about $20 million a year.

Rivers ISNT happening guys. He came out and flat said he's playing in San Diego this year and not to listen to the media.

San Diego would be fools to hand him over for anything we have TBH. When the Rivers idea was stirred up in December I for one never thought our 2nd overall alone would be enough to fetch a franchise QB, that thread was wishful thinking then somehow grew legs months later. There's simply just so few franchise QB's walking around you can't just trade them away like they're RB's or LB's, they are the foundation to any successful franchise. And its not like you can draft one either, theyre not pass rushers or WR's who naturally come out in flocks, theyre like a rare white rhino that are seldomly found.

Id even say after the owners, its the QB's who really run the show, head coaches are a dime dozen, no owner would allow his staff to shop his main man, and the Chargers have a solid group upstairs to know not to do this for anything.

We could offer our 2nd, 33rd, 60-whatever pick, and 3 of our best players and theyd still turn us down. Thats just how special a Philip Rivers type is. If you dont have a QB in this day in age, youre not even playing the same game..

You guys realize you're talking about the same exact thing you've been talking about since October, right?

I'm not handing over a load of picks for an aging QB, he is good though I'll admit, but when we have other holes to fill. Several holes at that.

If we're offering that much I'd aim higher than Rivers...he's a good QB but not worth that imo. Give me Rodgers or Brady for that price.
