I want no part of this if it involves the Titans not getting anything back but Rivers. If we swap picks, then awesome. I'm not giving up picking in the 1st for a 33 year old QB. I wouldn't give up anything else but #2 as well. If they want extra picks, like has been rumored, I'll just stick with Mett.

However, if it's Rivers & #17 for #2, I'm all over it. I think our defense is already vastly improved. If we get another WR and an OT, I think we could be competitive quickly and surprise some people with Rivers at QB.

And yet the majority of your post focused in his arm strength, which you brought up FIVE separate times in that post.

And no it doesn't matter that he has a weak arm. You clearly didn't bother reading the link I posted.posted . He doesn't rely on arm strength to be a great QB and never has.

Yeah I read the link. Clearly the author didn't watch Manning in the playoffs last year. To watch those games and say that arm strength doesn't matter is denying the evidence that is right in front of you nose. Manning could literally not throw a ball over 15 yards in that wind and cold. In fact, I've never seen a team, College or Pro, throw that many bubble screens or throws behind the LoS. So I suppose if we want to be confined to being a "dink and dunk" offense, then Rivers or Manning would be terrific. BTW, "solely" doesn't mean "majority".

You have to have enough arm strength....not the strongest.

Then they can have Rivers for the 2 years they can (1 on contract and 1 on franchise tag) and then we sign him for free (no picks) after we have built up the team for two years and given Mett and possibly Mariota a try.

If they are concerned about giving him a long term deal because of his health, that should tell us to stay away from throwing picks at them.

So what QB at this time would be worth the #2 straight up? Andrew Luck? Brady? Brees? Newton? I'd say the list is very few.

Given our current team and coaching staff and GM? A Luck type of guy yes. Rodgers yes. But the guys who would be worth it we can't get.

Manning NO!!! Not even sure he has another year in him. If we had the team and or coaching staff, maybe Brady. But we don't have the team, coaching staff or GM that I think could win us a SB in the next few years even with an elite level QB. If you told me we'd be getting a new GM and HC and staff after next season...maybe. But how has the last 2 worked out? Not optimistic the ownership would get the next one right either.

What you'd be buying (with a Phillip Rivers) is relevance, not a real chance at the SB unless the GM, HC, coaching staff and team all do a much better job. And getting him for the next 2 years vs signing him to a free agent contract in 2 years makes me think it's not worth it to trade for him. If he wants out of SD, let him play it out for 2 seasons while we build up the team and see what Zach and or Mariota have and if we still need a QB, Rivers would be stepping into a MUCH better team than if we trade for Rivers and lose the value of the #2 pick overall.

I agree with not having enough around the QB to make most of them successful. I'm not opposed to having Rivers but I'd want their 1st back as well, at the very least.
I'd draft as if Mett is the QB this year (ideally trade down to #6 and pick up additional picks) and if he doesn't show anything, things are in place for a QB next year. Whether that's Rivers, a rookie or another FA vet.

I agree. The main reason Rivers isn't worth #2 straight up is his age. At #2 you can get a player that will be a cornerstone of your team for 10+ years. Leonard Williams is 20 years old right now. If he just played until the age Rivers is now, he would be in the league for 13 years. I'd take 13 years of a dominant defensive lineman over 4 of an aging QB any day.

That and his back...plus his desire to leave SD, what if he changes his mind about being here? If Whiz doesn't stick around does that affect Rivers?
