Actually, if this is true, it helps our leverage. As I have mentioned previously (maybe on another thread, but at this points nearly all threads are about the same stuff anyway), I am more interested in what kind of draft package we get in a deal like this than in the stopgap QB we get.

If Rivers is threatening to retire, his value (to the Chargers and/or others) goes down, which increases both the need for the Chargers to come up with a plan B at QB AND increases what they would have to give up in order to get that done. On the other hand, if Rivers moves back here (2 hours north of his hometown from what I understand), his outlook on retirement may change.

I am still good with a Rivers deal IF and only if we also get a good package of draft picks (their 17 this year, maybe another mid round this year or early round next year....something like that). If the Chargers aren't good with that, fine....there are other teams with stopgap QBs who probably are.

Disagreeing with someone's point of view does not make that person clueless. I think if Rivers would agree that he would take an extension to play here and sign a 5 year contract he would definitely be worth the number 2 pick overall. How is a sure thing not better than a gamble? It's possible that Winston is gone by the time we draft. 50% of 1st round QB's don't pan out. I choose experience so I know what I'm getting before taking a risk at the most important position on the field.

I would still take Leonard Williams @2. If we can Get Rivers and their #1 I would not be too upset. That would be cheaper for the Chargers than what Cleveland or some other team would have to give to get there.

Any draft other than williams at number 2, unless of course we trade down for more picks, is stupid...but that seems to what this franchise does. So....

Rivers is just going to come here and retire. It would be the ultimate screw job. Lets just stick with youth movement. Whis and Webster are gone after this season anyway.

Why trade the number 2 overall pick for a 34 year old QB with a wet noodle for an arm? Not to mention that he is reluctant to sign an extension with San Diego; why because he doesn't want to leave San Diego, he just doesn't want the team to relocate to LA? In other words he wants to stay in San Diego under the right conditions, meaning his heart is still there.

Let's just say that PR is OK with a trade to the Titans and decides to sign a 5 year deal with us. My God, can you imagine a 39 year old PR trying to throw a football in to the wind, ROTFL? Who's to say that after a couple of years on a terrible team trying to rebuild he just decides to retire, which many 37 year old QB's do, then how good was the trade then?

I would say PR has the weakest arm of all 32 QB's in the NFL, even more so that Peyton Manning, and that's saying a lot. I mean if you were talking a 27 year old PR then that trade makes a whole lot more sense.

When you are in re-building mode, which clearly we are, you do it through the draft, not by bringing in ageing players, you do it through youth. Hell even San Diego is worried about his health, I think it's all about his lack of arm strength.

Think about it, PR is not going to walk in here and instantly turn this team around, you've seen our roster. At best it would take a couple of years of great drafts to fix this team even with PR leading the way. So, hypothetically, say we are in the playoff run in a couple of years, we now have a 37 year old QB with string cheese for an arm at the helm, no thanks. I'd much rather see us take Mariota at 2 than trade for Rivers. Mariota has a ton of upside whereas PR, at this point in his career, has none.

LOL....that would be the ultimate screw job I guess. Punctuate a career of screwing us on the field with a move that screws our future.....
