I've only been lifting seriously for a year now. Just trying to build up enough quality mass and shed some of this fat. Once I'm happy with how I look ill be fine just to maintain at around 15% bf. I actually prefer the thicker look rather than the super shredded look anyway. But right now it's just too much fat and not enough muscle lol.

It's the fastest way to do it.

You can eat at maintenance and lift, but it just takes longer to put on mass. I tried doing it initially because as a former fatty I was afraid of putting weight on, but then my lifts stalled(I was doing sets of squats at 190 at the time vs 295 now). As soon as I started eating more my lifts started going up again.

Yeah that's what I love most about bulking. Sure it's nice eating everything you see but your lifts just skyrocket.

TIL that in some foreign countries they tape over the stuff on US food boxes that they consider lying, IE, a box of Cheerios saying "a great source of protein+milk."

My favorite is still the box of Cheerios.

Cheerios Protein advertises 11g of protein and in tiny letters underneath says "with milk." The actual cereal has 7g of protein(not that much, BTW).

Honey Nut Cheerios advertise a good source of calcium. In reality a serving only nets you 10% of your calcium for the day. Add in a 1/2 cup of skim milk(per the nutritional label) and it gets a bump to 25%.

All is good until age 42 then your mass starts to dwindle and fat builds even with same work load and diet. Your cartilage starts breaks down and your joints get inflamed. Then your're stuck in a rut with high calorie diets and a shrinking metablolism compounded by greater difficulty performing cardio to an anaerobic threshold because of joints.

My advice to all of you to NOT bulk up. Focus on staying lean keeping body fat less than 18%. that may sound easy at age 30-40 but you better be guiding your eating habits and DAILY exercise routines with stretching/yoga/core along with cardio. Pepper in your mass workouts but carrying mass is more harmful than healthy over 40yo.

I do all my workouts at home. All I have is a set of 15lb dumbells, 25lb dumbells, set of resistance bands, & pull-up bar. Back when I lived in Illinois i'd go to the gym 6 days a week, was on supplements, daily protein shakes, & ate a ton of calories...def bulked up. Now, I have a new job in which I travel for the majority of the year, so I didn't want to pay for a gym. Pretty much do all my exercise in my hotel room or at the tiny hotel gym. Sure I can't bench what I use too, but i'm more of worried about being healthy then being jacked. Every now and then i'll go to the gym with my roommate if i'm home and do my old routine (maybe 1-2 times a month), other than that I just do home workouts.

Cut away all the crap food.. no more soda, ice cream, chips, cookies etc. Still eat a ton of carbs and pretty much whatever I want, just purchase a lot more fresh fruits/veggies and eat a lot of meat. Sure I cheat every now and then and eat some sugary goodness, but still never felt healthier.
