I don't any team makes personnel decisions based on marketing. I doubt that's even in the conversation. They will make picks based on who they think gives them the best chance to improve the team and win games.

When you see guys like tebow get drafted in the first round and guys like emmitt smith get signed to decent contracts when they are 65, i see those as marketing moves. It's all about the money.

Teams that are put on the field are products...products get marketed...whether it's players, image or jerseys, it's about selling your product.

With all the uncertainty in the CEO/Presidential wing, I would think that Ruston has been given the authority to call the shots on draft decisions/personnel. I don't think that Underwood would make a hire before the draft and would at least give Webster control this go around. To me, it wouldn't make a lot of sense to bring in a new guy before the draft and give him final say over our draft/personnel decision-maker in Webster. That would make for a huge clusterf*** IMO.

"They" are a group of people who had a franchise land in their laps less than a year ago. I think anything is possible.

Who are you referring to? Ownership? They aren't making the picks.

    Yes. Ownership.

Think Reese would have taken anyone other than Young once Bud told him to take him?

If ownership says take Mariota, they'll take Mariota.

I don't think ownership will force anything with the pick. With the transition ongoing, I could see Steve Underwood perhaps having a say, but I think they mainly want to stay out of this and let Webster/Whisenhunt handle it. They seem to have a ton of faith in these 2 (for whatever reason). So I think they'll let them do their thing.

With that said, I could absolutely see Whisenhunt/Webster deciding to go QB for marketing purposes. They can acknowledge what a new Qb does (excitement, tix sales etc) and they may believe this will make ownership happy, which would allow them to keep their jobs. But this would still be Whisenhunt/Webster decision IMO.

It's total speculation on my part to think they will. But I'm speculating based on them wanting to take the reins from Tommy because they don't like the direction the franchise is going in. Webster and Whiz is a big part of Tommy's short legacy with this franchise so I don't think it's beyond reason to believe the owners may not have total confidence in either.

It's not Webster's or Whiz's jobs to put butts in seats. Their job is to win games. They would take whoever they felt gave them the best chance at doing that as their futures depend on it.

Ownership are the people who benefit from butts in seats regardless of whether or not the team wins.

A woman who breeds fox hunting dogs is the family appointmented "owner" right now.

All she has to do is make the call.

"Ruston, draft the cute Hawaiian boy and send us pics of him standing with the raccoon!"
