Mariota would only put this team in the ****house for 3-5 years if the staff/FO lets him. You aren't handcuffed by top pick rookie contracts anymore. It should be pretty clear after 2 years whether or not Mariota "has it". If not, you call a spade a spade and move on. The inability for those in charge around here to move on has been almost as much to blame as "bad picks" for our years and years of poor QB play. It was clear VY didn't have it well before we cut ties with him. Same with Locker. We moved on from both of those guys too late. We should've been drafting contingency plans along the way. And by contingency plans I don't mean 6th round picks like Rusty Smith and Zach Mettenberger.

I get the knocks against Mariota. I still think he's worth rolling the dice on. LW isn't a sure thing either, depsite what people may say. If I'm gonna gamble I'd prefer to gamble on the most important position in the game.

Again, just my two cents though. Keep swinging until you hit a homerun I say. We most likely aren't going the distance until we get a great QB in here anyway.

    Based on what?

I do understand what you are saying, except here. Why is it worth rolling the dice on? Anything other than "hes a QB".

Mett will definitely "throw" better than Mariota can dream of next year, and the year after.

This is true, and I do believe in Mett if he can get some time/weapons. I am not huge on Mariota, but there is no questioning that he more athletic and multi-dimensional than Mett. He can win with his legs and extend plays when needed. It will be interesting to see how he converts to the NFL.

Nobody knows who will be a bust pick. Look at what was said about Aaron Rodgers before he was drafted. He was a system QB, not a canon arm, etcetera. Lots of the same stuff. Yes he got to sit and learn for a year or two. Mettenberger can be our QB this year. Let MM learn . We need a franchise QB . If Mett does good , great. But if he gets hurt, or is not the answer who do we have? No he is not Andrew luck, but QB is the most important position .

That may be true. But you and I both know there's more to being a great QB than just that. I was one of the ones clamoring for Mett last year. I knew it was a longshot but I wanted to see what he had. Then he got out there and did very little to impress me for the rest of the season. I'm certainly not jumping up and down at the thought of entering 2015 with him as the unquestioned starter.

As for Mariota, there's nothing I'm gonna say that is going to change your mind about him. There are several people more knowledgeable than myself who have conducted full draft profiles on the guy and listed out his strengths and weaknesses. If there wasn't something to the guy then he wouldn't be poised to be a top 5 selection in the upcoming draft. I like what I've seen from the guy (not that I don't have concerns), and it's really just as simple as that.

We don't KNOW anything is my point. Yes MM could bust. But he could also be the next Russell Wilson. We just don't know. While everyone is entitled to their opinion, to sit here and say he's definitely not going to make it in the NFL would be foolish.

If we pass on Mariota and he turns out to be something it's gonna sting for a long, long, long time. If he busts then my thought is at least you tried. We simply have two different philosophies here. At the end of the day though it doesn't matter what we think. Our selection has most likely already been determined and we're just gonna have to deal with it, as usual.

I would feel much better about having the #1 pick and taking Winston rather than Mariota. That's something I've wondered for a long time. Is it possible that TB likes both QBs and would be happy with either? They may prefer Winston slightly, but if we could offer them something just to move up 1 spot for Winston, would they take it? And what would the cost be of such a move?

I really would not want Winston. Just my opinion . Character concerns and work ethic would be big concerns to me. And Tampa needs a QB and looks like Winston is the guy.

I've watched 2 full games of his. Explosion isn't his game. He looks to play the run first on almost every snap. If it's a run he manhandles his guy wherever he wants. If it's pass he manhandles his man and gets to the qb. He is in on almost every play because guys literally can't block him. He goes wherever he wants. I don't think this will be as effective at the next level, but the dude is a beast.

Assuming the Titans go Defense, in the first (I hope) how about Brett Hundley in the 2nd or 3rd?

you dont use draft break down.com?

I like to go by their footage, they show every snap, you get a good idea within a few 8-minute videos on a guy, and Williams is a special player
