I see it different. Their announcement actually increases our trade value. There has to be more than one team interested in trading for a QB if their is to be any trade market due to QB interest.

The Jags stating they are willing to deal only emphasizes teams interested in Mariota or Winston will need to jump the #3 spot to assure them Mariota. Keep talking Jags. And keep feeding we are thoroughly looking into QB. I want that blockbuster trade. I want to rebuild our D with several draftees. LeBeau the legend will establish a new culture with those impressionable rookies.

This announcement also puts the Jets in play to trade with us now. I find this talk VERY interesting even though the draft is f'ing 10 weeks away.

This means nothing...every GM will say they are willing to listen to trades. The fact is that if you are the GM of a team and you want either Winston or Mariota you have to trade with us to ensure that you get one of them. If you don't trade with us then you risk not getting your guy. We need Mariota and Winston to have great pre-draft seasons to increase the value of our pick.

    Uhh what...

This has ZERO impact on us. it doesn't even matter if we bluff going qb or not. The whole reason teams want to trade with us is we have a guaranteed shot at 1 or both qbs (in the event TB doesn't take one). You have to trade with us to ensure you get one. Teams aren't trying to outbid us for a qb, it's the other teams that want to move up that they're worried about. If we thought that mariota was a future HoFer then we would just take him which ends all the trade talks. The notion that we want a qb but some team gives us such a good deal that we can't turn it down is ridiculous.

That's not entirely true. Nobody knows definitely who is a future HOFer. And it depends on how much faith we have in Mett. Who needs another QB if you already have a good one? Especially when you have so many other needs.

I'm not saying Mett is our answer (although personally I think he will suit our needs for the next few years). I'm saying what we do with Mariota/Winston depends on the truth about how Webster (Whiz) feels about Mett.

I think you misread my post. If we like Mariota and think he's going to be a good qb in this league then we will draft him, regardless of what some other teams offer. We don't have a proven starter so you can't pass up on a guy you think is really good. If we trade down its because we're not sold on him and other teams are.

My bad- I did misunderstand. I thought you meant the ONLY reason we would trade down is because we don't think he'll be a good QB. My point is that it depends if we think he will be significantly BETTER than Mett.

I'm in the camp that believes the benefit to the team between having Mariota versus Mett as QB is much smaller than the benefit to the team by having multiple early round picks this year and next which trading the pick should provide.

Another way to look at it is: Say a team trades to #3 for QB#2, they can't be sure we will not take QB#2 or that another team sees the trade to #3 & leap frogs them to #2 to get their QB.

It all depends on how QB needy teams are & what they are willing to risk. It's a toss up like any other year.
