Wut? Did you read the last sentence of my post? Im saying that the top tier running backs are truly exceptional but hard to come, just like your Barry Sanders, Emmit Smiths. Some running backs are made to look exceptional by exceptional lines like Demarco Murray.

What I was trying to say is that the level of talent between those upper middle guys and low end starters isnt that much different that it will make that big of a difference. When you have a guy who falls in these categories you build a line and make them exceptional.

Shonn Greene is our biggest problem at RB.

Emmit Smith was made to look amazing by his line, Barry Sanders would've gotten 2,000 yards 3 or 4 times behind that line imo, Smith wasn't great, he was good to very good, but that's the most I'd give him

If your line can buy you one extra yard per rush you're gonna get a lot more first downs - and all of a sudden the QB starts looking better.. Funny how that works..

I never turn down an opportunity to bash a Cowboy, but.....you don't break Walter Payton's rushing record by being good to very good, no matter how good you want to argue his line was.

That, and he was so consistent. He is such a class act and played the game right as well, very easy to like.

We need an explosive power back in mid rounds. I liked the Sankey pick and hope he comes around but we can't depend on that. We need to fix the line but Sankey needs somebody to push him and give us another dimension to the run game in case our line is still suspect. I'm kinda tired of having a weak line and small RB's Sankey,McCluster,L.Washington etc. Maybe we need to keep Greene? Who knows. We got mad holes to fill. (pause)

Watch his cut ups and you'll see a back that has the ability to gain what's blocked and always fall forward. Nothing that indicated he was the best RB in the 2014 draft.

We ****ed up the pick. I don't think there's any doubt about it.

Totally agree! Emmitt Smith was a very good RB, but the OL and team around him allowed him to be a Hall of Famer. When Sanders team abandoned the Run and Shoot for a traditional offense, he had to fake out 2-3 guys just to get back to the LOS. That style killed them because they were bad blockers and meant Sanders had a lot of negative rush plays. I think one year he led the league in negative rushes or stuffs. At the same time he ran for like 1500 yards. In those days, Sanders would take a beating for a measily amount of yards til he faked out half the D on 2 plays which got him 100 of his 125yds rushing.

If Barry Sanders played on the Cowboys and Emmitt played on that Lions team. Sanders is by far the greatest RB of all time and might challenge Rice as the greatest NFL player of all time. But even with no blocking, Sanders could still put up 1500yd seasons. If he had a real OL, he'd have rushed for 2000yds most seasons.
