Im bringing the facts, saying Webster drafted Jake is a half truth, we have no idea what level of involvement the VPPP has in the Titans war room.

Its more than likely all parties from Reinfeldt to the QB coach had a say, but we truly dont know whos to blame for the Locker pick.

Webster is being given a legitimate chance to turn things around, that's why.

He inherited a bad coach (Munch), and had to work with the Munch bunch for a few years. Know that he has 'hand picked' his coach, he will get a couple of years to try to turn it around, or likely Tommy will clean house ... I know last year sucked, but it is the right thing to do. You can't go fire coaches after 1 year (because then no one will want to coach for you). You can't hand the keys over to the GM, and fire him when things didn't get turned around in 1 year.

This is Webster's time to shine or fail. With the #2 pick, he will have no excuses.

I really don't mind most of his FA signings. You really can't expect a GM to bat much more than .500 (in draft or FA) ... At least when Webster goes to FA he swings for the fences. Sometimes he misses, but at as long as he is willing to admit mistakes (like Oher) and not be too stubborn to hold onto guys, then I think its fair to give him another shot. He is on the hot seat no doubt

Munchak was a solid coach, but he had no direction/philosophy, thats was his ultimate downfall.

This is why Im cool with giving Whiz time to do his thing, his system is tried and true, we just need the right pieces.

I agree ... I actually don't think Munch was a bad coach. He just surrounded himself with 'buddies' rather than good solid coaches. I honestly think that Munch could've been an good head coach if not for that ... but that is part of the job, so I guess in that sense, he did suck at it

He's good at catering to the roster he has, but you wont ever get far always wandering thru the forest.

What I think Munch's strenght (and also weakness) was that he was humble. He KNEW that he didn't know everything, and was willing to rely on the 'experts' to do their jobs. He was simply the 'manager' ... which is all a HC needs to be. HC doesn't need to micromanage everything like some do.

But he really needed a good OC/DC for this to work ... he had crap on both sides of the ball unfortunately. I think with a good OC and DC he could've established that identity. Even still, he was good at playing to everyone's strengths, but you're right, that is not enough.

But his downfall was he was too loyal to his friends, and chose them over the team.

People are always looking for one individual to blame for a teams failures, when everyone involved has a share in it. Sure Ruston could have made a few better draft picks and signings, but aren't the coaches responsible to coach up the players, the players responsible for developing and honing their skills?

There were some signings that we all liked at the time, like Levitre. He was the best OG on the market and Ruston went and got him. He played well in Buffalo and there was no reason to think he wouldn't continue to play well here. There were other instances where he went after guys and they just did not want to come here. He brought in the ones he could. I'm not giving him a pass, but it's not as cut and dry as "this whole team is his fault, let's bring in someone else." Be careful what you wish for. Most of us wanted Fisher gone and we got stuck with Munch.

Whenever you hear people talk about free agency, there are always two kinds of FAs… players who will take less to play for a contender, and players who want to get paid, either because they’ve already won somewhere else, or because money is their biggest driving factor. And lets face it, no one who has come here in the last few years has done it thinking that they’re going to play for a contender.

Not only are we an unattractive destination for premier free agents from a competitive standpoint, but if we do have someone willing to consider us, we have to pay more to get them. So Webster may be doing the best he can with the situation we are in as far as free agency goes. Where you can really judge a GM and an organization is in how well they draft. And… well, the results speak for themselves.

The biggest thing to me is that Webster is at least GOING AFTER big FA's. Sometimes we don't get them, and sometimes they don't pan out, but is sure is better than sitting back and waiting for the 2nd tier FAs to come along before signing anyone ... I really can't fault him for his FA acquisitions.

I think the draft is a valid argument. We haven't really been getting the best out of some of our drafted players lately (or ever). There have been some solid pickups like Lewan though. Hopefully he can nail the #2 pick this year.
