I see, so the forward pass came about from trying to circumvent a rule? Please explain...or are you now making stuff up about me? And I see you didn't name me any play another team ran that is similar to what the Pats did...

I guess we should just take their word for it and ignore the game tape. The Pats have never cheated before!

The key wording here is...later deemed. If 5 years from now you say doing this or that is cheating but it wasn't at the time, how do you retroactively punish someone. If they are cheating or crossing the line NOW, it's a different story.

The simplest 'fix' for this that would still alow QB's to have the texture they want is to allow them to prepare the balls the way they want but 2 hours before the game, they deliver the balls to the officials not inflated with a request for the pressure they want 12.5-13.5. An official will oversee the balls are inflated by a league person and will be handled by an NFL ball boy during the game with neither team having contact with the balls on the sideline. QB's get the texture they want and the air pressure they want within the rules.

You have the right point...but it wasn't just Brady, it was actually a group of QB's with Brady and Manning leading the charge.

OK, so how about answering the question that was in my post but omitted from your quoting of my post....if the noise advantage is equalized over the course of the season and each team gets the same number of home games, why is there a rule about loudspeaker noise in the first place? Would this not also be equalized out over the course of the season? Actually, I would submit that it is "more equal", since crowd noise potential is more dependent on crowd enthusiasm potential in a stadium, which varies team by team depending on how the team is performing (both game and season wise). Loudspeaker noise is controlled only by the volume setting on the device, which is much easier to equalize between stadiums.

As mentioned in my previous response, crowd noise is dependent on team performance, as well as stadium acoustics. The 2014 Titans most definitely did not do anything in 2014 that could cause an overly loud response from the crowd. However, in 2013 Centurylink Field in Seattle recorded crowd noise at 136.6 dB, which exceeds your stated volume by a lot. Again, this illustrates that the crowd noise issue is NOT equal between teams, and can in fact advantage one team over another.

All teams have, in the past, found ways to push and bend rules to their advantage, including the Titans. Tell me with a straight face that offensive lines on all teams strictly adhere to the rules around holding, for example, and then tell me that every time there is a holding infraction on a play that it is penalized. Regarding crowd noise...in 2014 the Titans were 2-14. There is very little that a 2-14 team can and will do to inspire any crowd enthusiasm.

The incident that you described that got this response from me is debatable as to whether it violated or circumvented any rules as well. It is your opinion that it did, but as I have read in other posts that certainly is not the consensus opinion here.

Later Edit: I just read the link from SI, so yes, the player who declared himself eligible, then ineligible on consecutive plays without leaving the field was in violation of the rules. Again, my point is that pushing the envelope to exploit the rules is not in any means exclusive to the Patriots...as mentioned above with my example on holding.

I would agree with this....QBs will still want to have some control over the condition of the footballs that they intend to use. Other desired conditions on the ball that they lose control over will be attempted to be compensated for by more wearing of gloves, etc....IMO.

I would agree with that, although where it gets blurry is in the McGuire example you cited. By the letter of your criteria above his issue with the hormones (later deemed to be illegal) should not keep him from the Hall of Fame. Is that your view here, and if not, how does his situation differ from what you say above?

You do realize the NFL came out and said what they did was a violation during their substitution circus right?

It was their scoring play Against Indy because they didn't "know the rules" apparently like they kept telling everyone else.

And neither does the Patriots use of tackle eligible formations, so why are you applying a different standard to them?

You're the one talking about circumventing a rule. The Patriots did no such thing. If you want actual teams I can tell you both Alabama and Clemson have been doing it (Google it). I could even name you teams here in Denmark who do it, but that obviously wouldn't mean much to you.
