He may well be, bu like it or not this was a spin piece. It's calculated, to a professional degree. With that being said I actually gained sympathy for Gordon, and hope he can overcome his past troubles.

I went to Baylor so I want to sympathize, but in reality all Im hearing is one excuse after another. His excuses may be legit, but the difference between being a winner and loser in life is finally taking responsibility for your failures, stop making excuses, and start doing whatever it takes and making whatever sacrifices necessary to prove you're a winner. He needs to shut up and get to work.

Until he has that mentality he is destined to fail again. When you find yourself in his situation, there is no excuse to even flirt with potential failure. I.e. Being in the presence of someone smoking pot, going to Vegas with a bunch of people drinking, driving under the influence, taking a prescription without checking if it's on the banned list. All of these things were done by him after his character was already being questioned. That shows a lack of seriousness about his problem which is the inability to follow the rules like everyone else. This article proves he has still learned nothing. Look for another infraction when he comes back unless he has a total change in attitude and develops humility similar to Vick.

Exactly...Make the change, demand to be different and stop passing the buck. Unfortunately, this is common among the younger generation as a whole.

This is one thing I think our culture takes a little too far. Anytime someone tries to explain why something went wrong, no matter how legitimate, they get labeled as "making excuses." I think Gordon's story about thinking his ban on alcohol was going to be lifted after the season is completely legitimate. I would have thought the same thing. Obviously he made it through the season without testing positive, with as many tests as he said he had to take, so we know he has some sort of self control. If nobody told him when the ban was lifted, I think it being lifted after the season is a safe assumption to make.

When you are a repeat offender with 2 strikes already against you, you ASSUME nothing. You know what happens when you assume,...

if you read his excuses, he says a lot of his mistakes occurred because he assumed this or that. When your back is against the wall, you can no longer make assumptions. You have to be very certain regarding every decision you make.

Whoever wrote this letter for Gordon needs to be hired by the NFL and be their director of communications for all their player screw ups!
