Gee that guy is really smart... I guess all the balls we play with must be magical since they automatically lose pressure over time...

I think the investigation will conclude that the practice of breaking in balls (which is common in the NFL) can have the effect of lowering the air pressure below the allowed limit. However because it is something most teams do in various ways and degrees (a lot depends on the QBs preferences), I think the NFL is having a hard time figuring out if they can punish Patriots and if so how.

Both Brady and Belicheck have been interviewed about this last week, and plenty of fingers have already been pointed here. There have been no followups because the Patriots are not wanting to further the distraction (obviously), but also because there really is nothing new here (I am sorry, a video of a ball attendant relieving himself while guarding the game balls is not particularly compelling to me).

In another post you mentioned the friendship between Kraft and Goodell....I get that. However, Kraft would not come out as strong as he did if he did not know something (would not risk losing face). Also, his frustration was probably not aimed at Goodell, but at the press and chattering class who treat a video of an attendant going to the bathroom like evidence coming from Deep Throat.

Worst analogy EVER! For one the balls did not impact the outcome of the game. It was a close game until the balls were switched and then the Patriots pulled away. Secondly, the Patriots have not been guilty of this before. The previous case of cheating was completely different.

A better analogy would be a race team who have previously cheated by using irregular fuel, wins a race and subsequently their car (+driver) is slightly under the weight limit although the pre-race inspection was ok. Until you determine that the loss of weight couldn't be caused by a collision during the race or the driver losing more water weight than expected, etc. you can't conclude they are cheating.

In the real racing world this problem is solved by a mandatory post-race inspection and any deviation triggers a penalty. But in the NFL there is no post-game inspection and no rule stating that the pressure in the balls must be maintained throughout the game. This could be a change the NFL makes, requiring the balls to measure within limits at the end of the game. This would of course mean that teams would have to monitor the pressure during the game.

I would also add this....in the case of the football pressure, there is a logical and valid explanation for how the ball can lose pressure without intervention beyond changing its surrounding conditions (temperature). In the analogy Gut describes I do not see a logical or valid explanation for how the drugs could get into the system without direct human intervention.

That said....I have seen worse analogies LOL.....

I did not get to this in my other post (think I have addressed the other questions already...if not let me know). Regarding McGuire and precursors...there are examples of players in both baseball and football who are in the Hall largely due to gaining advantages from activities that have since been made illegal. Many of the "dead ball" era pitchers in the baseball Hall of Fame knew a bit about how saliva affects ball motion, for example. In football, as I have mentioned previously, Fred Biletnikoff is in the Hall of Fame, and I would be surprised if there wasn't stickum on his bust in Canton.

Regarding Mike Piazza....I really never followed him closely. Is your point that he has been kept out of the hall due to steroid usage (had not heard that before, but had really not followed him closely either)?

I think I'll trust bill nye over you that rubbing footballs is not going to cause that level of deflation.

Why are you so convinced that an organization with a history of cheating is innocent?

Actually, given the way we played last year, it might be an exciting "stop gap" measure to put some fire back on the field.....just thinking out loud here.
