The new Fantastic Four trailer is out...google it yourselves.
Looks dark and brooding like TDK and scifi spacey like Star Trek and Interstellar.

F4 were always my favorites as a kid. Loved The Silver Surfer and Namor etc.but that earlier cinematic take was as lame as you can possibly get. Dr. Doom just doesn't translate on screen very well.
This looks like an improvement over the earlier stuff - but how much rehashed crap is the average movie-going fan willing to take before saying "I've seen every inch of this before"? Every single scene in this trailer is purely derivative.
If the sky is the limit with CGI why can't we see something new for a change?

Everything is derivative all of the time...nobody creates in a vacuum. Innovation is done is small steps because the ROI has to be somewhat insured; people like familiarity. It's a constant battle in the live music performance world and the same here. Also in book cover art. Or any art, for that matter.

BTW, easter egg at 00:46 in that trailer

Funny because two of the three top grossing superhero flicks are Christopher Nolan films - and I'd venture to say his approach has been the least derivative of any of that culture.
Marvel just keeps reshuffling the same deck and it shows..

Not sure if we're on the same page, but I see Nolan as just another one of those small steps just like Scorsese or Speilberg or Burton was. Since Batman doesn't involve any super powers the Dark Knight series just looks to me like an old Ridley Scott scifi..."Inception" seemed to be the biggest step forward.
Marvel stuff is adolescent grade popcorn munchers....that's all it's intended to be.

Ridley Scott films are obviously an inspiration for Nolan but I don't see where he has physically lifted exact scenes from Blade Runner or Alien for his own movies.
The F4 trailer alternately could be rebuilt using scenes from other movies and it would be pretty dead on.. Same **** - repackaged.
:13 generic mountain shot (LoTR etc)
:18 generic suburbia at night (Contact etc)
:21 car on a farmy dirt road (Star Trek)
:26 kids discover something otherwordly (Super 8)
:28 hypersleep cannisters closing (Aliens - Zliens)
:35 military guys around a huge table..
    and so it goes..

And I agree on the popcorn munchers..
