    • The league is desperate for QB talent. The evidence is the long string of busts you listed. Teams will take a chance on a guy in the 1st in a heartbeat.
    • I am correct. Elite QB talent is almost always required to win a championship in the modern NFL which is why teams are throwing these picks at QBs early in the draft.
    • Whiz and Webster can't afford to start Mettenbackup. He will get them fired. Webster especially saves his job for a couple more years with an early QB pick.
    • You can't say Mettenbackup is a starting QB after 5 starts anymore than I can say he isn't.
    • Still, this team, any team really is more likely to move on from a 6th round pick quickly in favor of a chance to draft a potential star early.

At the same time, I will argue that Webster and Whiz will want to go with Mett because they want to save their job. Its ben said that no one can win with this team right now. We need so many pieces that a 50/50 flip on a qb is risky. If we can add another impact player like Copper or Williams will have more of an impact. Mett rocket arm and Copper could be great. Mariota proved that there is no way he can run this system, it would atleast takes years that we do not have. Mett has a better chance of winning games next year than Mariota. That I don't think can be argued. Winston is the coin flip. With off the field issues and ability, he is a big risk. The safer move would be to go with Mett and draft another player with Mett. Everyone also said that he is not a prototypical 6th round pick either. Everyone here needs to stop using that as a negative. Before the injury, he was a 2-3 rd pick.

Mettenbackup will get them both fired. Period.

If they don't go QB at #2 they likely will at #33 or later.

There will probably be another rookie QB on this squad next year.

If this team starts out 1-7 or 2-6 then the fans will be calking for whoever the rookie is to start and for Whiz and Web to be fired.

Personally if I'm Web I'm drafting for the future and to save my job.

I don't think Whisen**** is here beyond 2016. Maybe 2015 if we have another disaster season.

Im sure glad you can see the future. Tell use when we will make the playoffs again? Wasn't it dumb that the Colts didn't give up on Manning after he started 2-14.?Surprised they are even still a franchise.

If Mett pans out , Whis will restore his rep as a quarter back guru. O-line better block their arses off tho, seems like Mett gives up a free fumble with every sack. lol.

Interesting article I read today online about the draft and how we will take Jameis Winston as Mett isn't the right fit. In the very next breath the writer said Mett would instantly become trade bait and would be perfect with Arians in Arizona. ????

    How?

Which means, you don't need a HOF QB to get to or win the SB. And frankly, if Eli goes to the HOF, it will be because his team won 2 games. He's not a top 10 QB in the NFL but has been the QB of 2 underdog teams that beat 2 of the best teams in league history. To me, he's not a HOF QB, but that's the point. You can, even today, win the Super Bowl (multiple times) without having a top 10 QB.

Actually, you were. You said it was an insanely low % of QB's not taken in the top 2 picks or something to that effect. Glad to see you've moved off that point.

So because the rules favor the offense, the greatest offense in NFL history - led by one of the greatest HOF QB's in history, couldn't possibly be stopped by a modern defense, right? Oh look, Seattle crushed Manning and his historically NFL best offense! What exactly is your definition of a 'big time' qb?

Is Russell Wilson a big time NFL QB considering he avg's 1.25 TD's per game and a little over 200yds passing. They have the 27th best passing attack. Is that 'big time?'

Please tell me which players in the draft will be HOF'rs, Pro Bowlers, good starters and which will be busts. Since you know so much about Mettenbergers ceiling in less than a season, I assume given years of tape you can tell us much more about the guys in the draft. Why don't you start with Winston and Mariota? Will either be a HOF QB? Perennenial Pro Bowler? Which 1 or more SB's? Will either or both bust?

Nice try, but you have to include the QB's who lost as the talent of the QB doesn't determine who wins the game, the team does. Where were Kap, Wilson and Brady taken? Not in rnd 1. And I'm glad you brought up Brady. Did you think Brady was a HOF QB when he was drafted?

He absolutely is a statue. But you can teach QB's to be more aware of the pressure and also to not hold the ball past when they are supposed to get rid of it! it is not so much a problem of him not being aware of the pressure, but none of our QB's had much time to throw and Whiz didn't make much adjustments to add blockers or go to shorter routes til almost the end of the season.

Yes, the league is desperate for QB talent, which is why they overdraft so many and wonder why they bust. Doesn't mean we should follow suit.

A funny parsing of your words...elite QB talent is ALMOST always required to win? So in other words, it's not.

If we draft Mariota, Mett is starting next year anyway, right? I don't want them to save their jobs by resetting the clock just because they can. Sure, if Whiz drafts Mariota and has to sit him for a year and then he struggles his first starting season, Whiz could stay for a couple of years with very poor results. that doesn't mean it's the best thing for the franchise.

It's funny, because all you've been saying is that you know Mett is not a starting QB in this league....only time and opportunity can prove it either way.

Normally I'd agree with your last point except for 2 things. First, Mett was more like a 3rd rnd pick and more importantly, there are significant risks with taking Mariota or Winston.

Kipper just projected Mariota to the Titans in his first mock draft. He has Winston to the Bucs. I have to say that the thought of rebuilding for a couple years around a QB with his great character makes me excited about being a Titan fan again. His character is rare similar to Russell Wilson. I don't know if the Titans/Oilers have ever had a QB like that. Don't get me wrong. I don't think you should necessarily discriminate against a great talent because of off the field issues. I'm just saying if you get lucky enough to land a QB with elite character AND talent, consider yourself blessed. I hope the Titans are smart enough to not pass on him. We will learn a lot about Whiz from this draft...and yes I believe it will be Whiz's call, not Web's. This could be the decision that determines his fate.
