I heard an interview with one of the replacement crew chiefs. When he agreed he was allowed to bring his crew - so he chose his personal ref buddies. In the interview he said all the crews, his included, were star struck and ill prepared. He had been retired, as a ref, for a couple of years.

NFL ref union is the ones who screwed everyone over. They are overpaid for an obvious part time job that you have to be more connected than a fireman to get a job

This is a load of crap. He did an interview with CBS at the end of the season, and his basic reason in doing it was to defend the call.

If he is still defending his decision at that point, he clearly hadn't been harassed too damn badly.

I fail to see the basis for a lawsuit. I am not sure what employment status these guys are in and if they are covered by workers comp. If they are any injury, physical or mental would be covered and the "employee" could not file a suit against their employer outside workers comp because of exclusive remedy doctrine. Of course any entity other than the direct employer is fair game. It seems the alleged injuries were inflicted upon him outside his course of employment by random individuals. The question is, is it reasonable to assume that threats and harassment are foreseeable in this profession and should a ref assume this when taking the position?
