I've met some people in my life who believe the game is absolutely fixed from Game 1 forward. I think that's ridiculous, but is it unreasonable to think that the playoff season could be thrown? It's not many games and it's single-elimination, so I wouldnt call it impossible. Still, I can't find a motive when I look at past SB matchups.

Considering we know little to nothing about the control the elite(owners, corporations), exert on the workings of the govt. and everything else, it wouldn't be a surprise to know that they manipulate all things for their own purposes. But then, people don't believe in conspiracies, even though those in control manipulate all things each day we live-from low level sports to wars. I would say that if we believed, then govts. of the world would not have the power over the people that they have. Ignorance is bliss, I suppose.

This post makes me want to pull my eyes out with a fork and eat them. Thanks for that. Ignorance is bliss? Please. Ignorance is believing in things without facts or evidence. Otherwise known as conspiracies. The whole concept of throwing everything we know about logic and the scientific method out of the window makes me think I'm living through the Inquisition. We are talking about a minimum group of 100s of people keeping an Earth shattering secret, with minimal money to be gained and literally everything to lose.

    Ridiculous.

Fixed by who and how? (I haven't read the article)

Why would teams agree to this? No whistleblowers? There really isn't that many major calls that ruin a game anyway (Dallas/Detroit not withstanding).

The definition of "conspiracy theory" seems to be rather pliable based on Ten Titan's reaction here. While some are definitely silly, many ARE based on evidence and facts...it's just that some of them are missing, but the available can at least point in a general direction.
In all of these theories, someone has to be expecting a gain. Jerry Jones has REALLY wanted a SB appearance since investing in that extravagent stadium and questionable quarterback and has been thwarted pretty well so far. While I wouldn't think there is a vast conspiracy such as the one often claimed about media bias, I would think it possible that a ref might be getting a new car or some other sort of bonus.

So why would the Lions go along with it? They also recently built a new stadium and signed a questionable QB to a mega deal.

The problem with this is the Lions were up two scores at halftime. You'd think the refs wouldn't have allowed that to happen and even allow the chance of a Lions victory keep them from their new moderately priced sports cars...

This conspiracy is a bit ridiculous. Like said above there would have to be to many people involved for a full on rigging. I think it is much more possible that point shaving and/or one or two refs being involved in some kind of betting scandal. But, to think the whole league is rigged, is crazy.
