Probably the most sought after free agent this year will be Chiefs OLB Justin Houston. Coming off a 22 sack season (a sack shy of the new record) Houston will want to get PAID, but how much and by who?

For fun lets say Justin Houston is too rich for Kansas City's blood, after all, KC is projected to be $2M over the cap in 2015 and back in August of last summer Jason La Canfora and others were reporting KC and Houston were "far apart" on signing a new deal.

Following 2011 then Vikings DE Jared Allen also racked up 22 sacks, but was under contract and didn't receive anything in addition to the $74M ($12.3M/yr) Minnesota gave to him after Kansas City traded him away.

Currently Packers Clay Matthews is the highest paid OLB in the league at $69.7M ($13.2M/yr), and he's only hit 13.5 sacks before signing his deal. Last year the Redskins signed OLB Brian Orakpo to a one-year, $11.4M deal after posting 10 sacks, so expect Justin Houston to want at least that per year. And to be honest, $11-$14M/year would be fair.

As things stand today the Titans have $108,3M tied up into current contracts, and with the cap expected to be $140M in 2015 that leaves us with $31.7M to sign players with, more than enough to lure in Houston, but will we pay and do you want us to?

To me the Titans are an OLB and a CB away from being competitive on defesne, and with more than enough prospects coming up in the draft we dont have to pay for a OLB, we could just draft one, but Justin Houston is only 25 and hitting his prime, why chance it on an unproven rookie when a sure thing is sitting in front of you... Its only money and the league wants teams spending.

I say we throw a boat load of money Houstons way, remember the glory days of Jevon Kearse? We never paid big money for Kearse and he left us and we've never again seen that level of play from a Titans pass rusher, sign Houston!

Jc, I think you know deep down what will happen IF the Titans were to sign this guy. #1 either he turns out to be a fat albert or #2 stays hurt. That's our luck. Pass.

I think that looking at OLB contracts isn't all the helpful when trying to decide on Justin Houston's market value because he is 100% going to be paid like a defensive end. I would say that Houston's value would be around what Buffalo and Houston paid for Mario Williams and JJ Watt so you're basically looking at around 6 years and ~100 million dollars.

Now Houston is young enough that he would be 32 at the end of the deal and as long as he stays healthy I would imagine that he would be a 10-15 sacks a year type guy for us so I wouldn't mind too much but giving any player 16 million is a big risk.

I would love to have him and we will have money to spend. I just don't see him getting out of KC without a deal or being tagged. Why would they let him get away if they could prevent it?

How nasty of a defense would it be to have Houston on one side and Randy Gregory on the other?

those are the sacks over the years, that suggest he busts his ass to be better each year.

You cant be scared to sign guys, especially ones this dominate.

watch this interview and tell me he's a Fat Al 2.0

and when he was 1 sack away from the all-time record he's in pass coverage! Selfish bums dont drop back when theyre within a play of rewriting history. Justin Houston is exactly the kind of guy we want.

I voted no. Not because he isn't a good player, but because we aren't one pass rusher away from being a dominant defense.

We can't stop the run. If you can't stop the run it doesn't matter how many pass rushers you have on defense.

If we were to get both I'd be totally ok with it. Houston alone won't be enough considering how bad the rest of the D is. But pairing him and Gregory would be damn good starting point.

We can't stop the run because by halftime we've been on defense 40 plays.

We have some holes on D we need fixed but we have good tacklers, and every time theyre able to swarm the ball we've looked good. Unfortunately because they're over played they arent going full speed later in games.

    I say yes

But we're milessss away from just a CB and LB fixing this defense. The steelers final drive was a prime example.
