I wanted to start a thread about major draft surpises good or bad that should have been more obvious to scouts and GMs. A good example would be Ryan Leaf, how could the fact he was as mature as a 5 year old not be clear after so many interviews with him? He's retarded! There was actually a debate in 98 him or Peyton. While Peyton is a sure hall of famer Leaf goes to the penitentiary! No 2 guys could be more different.

Then there is Tom Brady. If scouts would ignore his 40 time or how buffed he looked with his shirt off they might have noticed that his accuracy and decision making was the best of that draft. He also was a winner and a leader. How could he last past the 4th rd? Maybe not a first or 2nd but he had too many good qualities to last as long as he did.

Cameron Wake-College stats at Penn State were muted by the fact he was a 4-3 OLB most of the time. Still he had 24 TFL in his career and was a good player. At 240 lbs Wake ran a 4.65 40 at the combine and a 4.55 on pro day. That didn't get anybody's attention? How about his 45 inch vertical? How do you ignore that?

Back in 2005 there were fewer 3-4 teams and that probably hurt him because most scouts looked at him as a 4-3 OLB prospect and probably considered him too small to be a DE. He's signed as a ufa by the Giants and then cut.

He goes to Canada and was so dominant after 2 seasons he would make the all decade team there. All decade team from 2 seasons play! He had 39 sacks in those 2 season. F*cking clue?

Even after those 39 sacks only a few teams wanted him. The Fins sign him and hit the mother lode. After one warm up year with 5.5 sacks he has had 58 sacks in 5 seasons 2009-present.

Look at the top 3-4 OLB prospects today and they are no more physically gifted. The idiots who get paid to evaluate talent should have known better.

I'm a huge Penn State fan and I thought Derek Wake kinda sucked. He turned it around because he transformed himself and started to work hard.

    How to avoid past mistakes...

Stop drafting like your friend's girlfriend does in fantasy football leagues.

When in doubt, just draft the highest ranked prospect available.

It doesn't take much to be better at drafting than this team in the past. 2003 and 2004 were prime examples, but almost all of our drafts during our time in TN have sucked.

In hindsight it would've been wise to hire a 3rd grader to make our draft selections... just explain to him to take the highest ranked player available when it's our turn to pick, and we'd be better off.

In Madden I trade down one spot and pick up their 2nd rounder as well. I do this about 10 times. I guess I'll take the job.
