Very little risk in getting Cutler since the Bears are holding all the dead money from his SB. The hit on the cap is his salary mainly and if you dump him after a year you pay no more salary.

Starting in 2017 there is a $2.5M a year roster bonus a year so you got 2 years to evaluste him before you have that extra money and cap to pay.

Cutler's numbers are better than Andy Dalton both in rating and in TD-int ratio. He's not old so i would make that trade.

Cutler and Mett are similar strong armed QBs you can run in the same offense. Would make sense.

Wow deep analysis there. Most people would consider a 31 1/2 old QB with a career 89.5 passing rating worth considering but we have idiots who see Tom Brady and nothing after that.

Cutler doesn't meet all the requirements i would have to be a quality starting QB. He doesn't have a 2-1 TD to int ratio but he does have 53 more TDs than ints, has completed over 60% of his passes and won more than 50% of his starts(Barely).

He has better career numbers than Andy Dalton and people would love to have him.

If you have a couple of high draft picks to give and the option to cut him when you want to, why would you not take him? Maybe he and Whiz would get along famously together! :biggrin2:

Cutler's contract doesn't necessarily matter much to us anyway since we could just do a new deal for 2016 and on. His salary of $15M is guaranteed but after that we could just do a new deal for less money. As i said the dead money from the SB doesn't not count toward our cap.

Why would we waste so much money on Cutler?

There is a reason cutler was given this huge contract, because NFL quarterbacks are hard to come by. I'm not claiming cutler is our savior or a franchise quarterback, but he is better than what we have now. We are set to have a lot of money, and let's be honest do any of you think we have a chance at Justin Huston or dez Bryant?

Ride cutler for a few years, build the team through the draft, find our franchise Qb and let him develope.

It really comes down to this because there are only 4 options that I see at the QB position right now.

    1. Hold tight: Main point here is Mettenberger goes into next season as the starting QB. Doesn't matter if we draft another QB late or sign another vet, Mett goes in as the starter next year. He showed some good things before his injury and was arguably the top QB in the class (stats wise). Build the defense from the draft, patch up the OL, and let's see what happens.

    2. Marcus Mariota: We take Mariota, would probably have to be 1st overall. Mariota either sits at the beginning and learns the offense and we see how Mett has improved or we throw Mariota right into the fire. Just like the last 2 QBs we've drafted in the 1st round, there's some risk with this "system QB" and we'll be patiently waiting and hoping for the next 2-3 years.

    3. Jameis Winston: Personally, my least favorite among the 4 choices. Requires a top 3 pick and since he's from a pro friendlier system right now, he could start from the first week. With more issues than Time magazine, he's the ultimate boom or bust franchise changing (good or bad) QB in the draft. Just like Mariota, he brings his own risks to the table and we'll be playing the waiting game.

    4. Jay Cutler: Huge contract, guaranteed money, and his career has been a bit overrated so far. He'll be 32 next season and has I think 2 years left on his deal, maybe an option. Looking at all the options, this may be the safest play from a longterm standpoint. He's a solid placeholder for the next 2-3 years. We can build up the rest of the team through the draft and can wait for a QB we really like to take. If the Bears throw in that rumored 3rd round pick then it makes things a bit more interesting. If this is a major failure then so what we're already at the bottom and looking at a top pick again in 2 years. The Cutler fail rate and the bust rate of the two other guys are honestly close to being the same

I don't think adding Cutler is a horrible idea like some think but I would still go with one of the first 2 options. I also like the idea of letting Mariota sit for a year or whenever we need him and let him learn and dissect as much as possible. This could also boost Mett's trade value if he plays well.

I just watched Bradshaw give a media BJ to Matthew Stafford. How is Stafford better than Cutler? Stafford plays with a hall of fame WR and can't surpass a 90 passing rating. He cut his ints down this year and his TDs went down with it. Only 19 this year!

If there were rumors we were going to get /Stafford the same people bashing Cutler would be a circle jerk of glee.

Gut has done a good job with the numbers. At least cutler has a cannon arm something Andy Dalton does not. You can work with that.

There are consoderations like if he fits the system and do the coaches think they can tweak some aspects of his game. Obviously reduce the turnovers.

All that said why not? Swap firsts, get a third and get Cutler.

If the Bears wanted us to swap first round picks then they better throw in more than a third for us to take their baggage and get the top pick. That would be a total steal for the Bears.
