You would have teams lining up like the new iPhone is coming out for that trade.

This is the only way I'd be ok with taking Cutler. Even then, release his ass the next day.

It says high draft pick. Not 1st round pick. 3rd tops.

A top 10 pick to avoid a cap hit? Get real.

The author suggests a 6th round pick for Cutler and a 1st.

The author is clueless... about as realistic as the movie Draft Day.

Yeah, I pretty much just read what Schefner(no idea how to spell it) said.

But no, they would pay Jay Cutler his salary to work the concessions on game days before they would give away a top 10 pick.

There is NO UPSIDE to bring Cutler here. He will play WORSE as we don't have the talent surrounding him nor the OL to protect him. Plus, you think you can get a blockbuster deal for a QB in the draft if they know we have our starter?

So what do we get for bringing in Cutler...approximately $15-16mil cap hit for each of the next 2 years for a QB who will play worse and zero chance of a blockbuster trade down in the draft to aquire a zillion picks. What's the upside? He MIGHT be better than Mett? I don't think he is and the downsides far outweigh any positive (since there is none).

Or put it this way, would you rather have Mett start and have Dez Bryant at WR or Cutler start with what we have? That $15mil cap hit is truly ridiculous. If I'm spending $15mil in a year, it had better be for an impact player, not a mediocre one I'm stuck with for 2 years and prevents me from overhauling the roster in the draft and stops me from signing an impact player or 2 in FA!!!

No, it's far worse! CJ's contract in 2014 wasn't guaranteed so we could cut him and just take the dead money from his signing bonus. If the Bears Cutler, they STILL owe him $15.5mil next season since it is already guaranteed. So they can cut him and eat $15,5mil next season and have no QB, or eat less and trade him to someone dumb enough to take him!!!

The Bears owe Cutler $15.5mil for next season if they keep his contract or cut him. If he is traded to a new team, that team takes over his contract (meaning they already have guaranteed him $15.5mil for 2015 and if he's on the roster March 12th (3 days into the new season in 2015, he gets $10mil of his 2016 contract guaranteed for that year even before he plays a down in 2015). yes, you could theoretically renegotiate a new contract, but why would Cutler take a pay cut when he's already getting $15.5mil in the bank no matter what for 2015?

The reality is that there are about 10 or more teams that need a legit starter. Even if you count Mariota and Winston (shouldn't count Mariota but we will for the sake of argument), who else is available? Hoyer, Bradford (maybe, maybe not), Mike Glennon (if the Bucs take a QB in round 1), Cousins or RG3 (depending on who wins...the coach or the owner). And you're probably not that well off as the browns will want to sing someone to backup Manziel if they even let Hoyer walk. Even if you include Locker as a viable stopgap starter for someone, there simply are not enough qb's in free agency and the draft for the qb needy teams to fill. Some lesser GM will make the mistake of bringing him in and killing his team for a couple of seasons. We don't want to be that team!

So what does all that mean? No team should trade for Cutler but someone might and once the Bears clean house, it's also possible the new GM/HC will want to keep Cutler thinking they can fix him! But let's suppose the Bears do what's best for them with no trade partner and cut him. Cutler still is owed the money while he looks for another team. As an established starter he will still command a decently large contract and there will be demand simply because this draft is weak at QB and there aren't enough good starters to fill the demand. Law of Supply and Demand!

I ask again, why would you want to pay a mediocre QB $15.5mil for this year and at least $10mil next year just to play worse than mediocre? If it's to take a beating, why take him in the first place. With $15.5mil in cap space, we could have Cutler at QB, or Suh at DE, or Bryant at WR, or Houston at OLB?

I'll take an impact player that is a difference maker, act like Im definitely taking a QB and trade for a blockbuster bunch of draftpicks to rebuild the roster. If Mett can play behind a totally revamped OL with better weapons and a dominant defense, great! If he can't, we will have multiple 1st rnd picks in 2016 to move up and get whomever we want or trade for an existing QB or have the cap space for a Phillip Rivers-esque free agent!

I hate to break it to you, but getting Cutler for a pack of gum IS the recipe for struggling for several more years with a start to the rebuild pushed 2 years from now...and that probably means drafting a franchise QB in 2017...which means going threw a couple more years of growing pains after that.

The simply facts are that Cutler gives you LESS flexibility to fix the roster as his contract is a GIANT problem and actually further fuels the bad culture on this team of overpaying players who are average at best! We also know that Cutler is not the solution so if you don't want to get Mett beat up, start Whitehurst til Mett and the team are ready. The question then comes back to, is Mett the answer? If he is, why wait two years to start him and waste that time and money on Cutler? If he isn't, we can find out by the end of next year and draft say Connor Cook in 2016 but in the meantime, we rebuild the team with mega picks by trading out of the mariota/Winston sweepstakes and by singing young impact players in FA.

The other option of course is to actually take Winston or Mariota and develop them. I think short of playing for one of the 3 teams that use a zone/read, Mariota may need to sit for a year. Again, you could start Mett or Whitehurst as the stop gap. I think if they draft Winston he becomes the starter day 1 unless his immaturity and the ton of money derails his work ethic...(hi Jamarcus Russell)

None of the above scenario works well with Cutler, even if we got him for FREE!

Cutler has had 2 'offensive gurus' in Mike Martz and Marc trestmn surround him with weapons and a strong running game and yet, still get nothing out of him!

Did Whiz show you he's likely to do better with how our 3 QB's did? I say NO!!!
