Draft Mariota or Leonard Williams for best case other than get something like what St. Louis got in the RG3 trade which is very unlikely.

Absolute worst case is draft Winston. As long as he is on the team I can't pull for them anymore and would just have to pull for whoever was on my fantasy teams.

Whoever we pick will be a bust. Mariota will be the next Locker, Winston will be the next Vince, Cooper will be the next Tyrone Calico so it really does not matter.

This particular one ruins it, yep. Not forever, but as long as he would be on the team I couldn't root for him and the team to succeed and can't support the kind of leadership that would draft him. There were about 5-10 others in the Calling My Shot thread that said the same thing so I am not the only one with the opinion either. I think some people are underestimating how much many college football fans hate him.

Since I live in NY, here's what Sports Talk is talking about regarding the Jets.

1 guy thinks the Jets should trade for Cutler...almost no one wants him in NY!
1 guy wants the Jets to sign RG3 and draft Cooper.
Most want the Jets to trade up for Winston (more than Mariota) but don't want to pay washington like huge amount of picks for him.
Definitely some talk of Cutler going to Ten (for a pick) due to him playing for Vandy and still having a 'fanbase' in Tenn?

I will cry if the Titans trade for Cutler...even if it's for a pack of GUM!!!

What people aren't getting is the law of supply and demand. Add Chicago as ANOTHER team that is desperate for a new QB and with Cook going back to college, there isn't even a 2nd rnd QB so it's Mariotta, Winston or what you have (or Hoyer, RG3, Cutler,...).

Picking First is optimal as some of the QB needy teams will like one QB over the other and probably willing to pay for it. Picking second will be nearly as good as only one QB will be left so if you want one, you will need to go up and get one. As in...bring me your draft picks...lots and lots of draft picks!!!!

I think both Winston and Mariotta have a ton of talent. The problem is, Winston has regressed to being a boom or bust pick (flashes of greatness, serious inconsistency issues, poor decisions and INT's) and that's just on the field stuff. Mariotta reads in a scheme specific offense and will need to learn a pro style offense since Whiz is not gonna go to a zone/read chip kelly style offense. Look at Alex Smith's career coming from similar type numbers and how long it took him to be an good NFL caliber QB. Yes, Russell Wilson would be the ideal model but we don't have that offense or OL or defense. So Mariota will take some time (years?) to develop and then we don't know into what?

What we DO know is that we could bank a serious coup of draft picks for this and future years and control the draft for years to come and rebuild our roster. If you use the Wash/StLouis trade as a benchmark, we could, say, get the #6 pick in the draft plus another 2nd and 3rd this year plus another 1st next year. Say we drop down to #10 and grab another 2nd and 3rd this year and another 2nd next year.

We still get a top 10 pick...WR, DT, pass rusher, OT, DE, S, etc and get 2 MORE 2nds and 2 more 3rds this year AND another 1st and 2nd next year. Is the drop off from Mariotta or Winston to the above haul worth it? Probably.

We could seriously fix pretty much all the holes on the team with these picks plus being very aggressive in FA and see what Mett can do behind a good OL, a strong run game and a good defense. And if he isnt the answer, we certainly have the draft picks to aquire the top QB next year IF there is one who's worth it.

Say we get #1 & take Mariota. How would y'all feel of we followed up with Melvin Gordon in the 2nd. Repeat of last year with no rbs in the first. No defensive or OL help into the third of free agents.

Would entirely depend on what additions we've made in free agency.

I can't deny it... I've thought about us going Cooper/Gordon (or Gurley).

We're not in the position to be able to do something like that... unless we are able to acquire an extra 2nd pick when a team trades up for our #1 or #2 pick.

I love Gurley, but I don't think he is built to last in the NFL. I see Chris Brown written all over him.

I have zero interest in Cooper. I think the idea of even drafting a receiver is illogical.

If we found a starting guard & OLB im FA, I'd be fine w Mariota & Gordon 1-2.

#1 is still alive, even if Tampa loses out. Here's my wants:

#1 - Land first overall, draft Mariota
#2 - Trade #1/#2, if sold on Mett and get a ridiculous haul back. Teams are desperate for QB and there's no great options besides Winston, Mariota, trading for Cutler, or risking it on a FA like Hoyer or Bradford. Many teams like NYJ, BUF, CHI, WAS, & STL may be looking to trade up. Jets would be prime, they trade us their '15 1st (around 6?), '15 2nd, '15 4th, '16 1st, & '17 1st... that's what STL dealt for RG3. I would LOVE this. Have 5 1st and 4 2nd in 3 year that's how you rebuild.

    #3: take Leonard Williams
