Tommy Smith speaks up

I seem to see things a little bit differently. I think there is absolutely no way that Ruston gets fired, at all. He was just allowed to hire his own choice for our new head coach and I think that Smith will let him ride this out. If Webster totally eats it this FA period and again in this draft and we finish below .500 next season then maybe he will be fired.

Smith is just doing what he needs to address the fanbase by reassuring us all that he's not gonna accept this no winning BS. I do 100% believe that we will be cleaning house as far as the roster goes and that to me is more significant than letting Ruston call the shots on personnel.

 

I agree, a FA fail will be on Webster if it happens again, but you have to think we're not going to over pay for a guy out in FA. For unlimited amount of money, yea we can get anyone we want, but not everyone is going to agree with the amount of money FO is offering.

I'm not defending Webster, but think about this. How would it be all on Webster if the guys we need or have interest want top money and we don't sign them?

 

You people are failing to realize that a FA failure will take at least 2 years to determine. The play is a 2-3 year re-build. And ftr, Webster is staying. An owner can't publicly support him like that and then dump him when people flee their PSL's. Smith stuck his neck out.

Webster hasn't done anything thus far to indicate is capable of navigating this re-build. Tommy Smith has stuck with Webster because he has little if any business connections with the rest of the NFL world. Let's face it- Bud didn't endear the franchise to the other owners. Oiler/Titans have never really been "in the mix" of the leaders of the NFL. Pioneer? Yes. True leaders, no.

If Smith were a capable owner, he'd realize that a successful re-build starts with the most talented GM that money can buy.

Yeah- I'm that down on Webster.

 

At least we are doing something. If the roster is changed significantly that in itself is change. We have for last few years needed this bottoming out to rebuild. We said beginning year lets do what we need to do get this right. And there have been changes, Mett at QB , sankey, Williamson , etc. now when year is done lets get rid of the dead weight and build and grow.

 

why was this not done in 14?

This is the the scariest thing of all about the Titans right now. I have no faith in ownership. Is there any reason to believe this organization has the knowledge and connections to build a front office staff that can compete with the best teams in football?

 

I agree wholeheartedly. The biggest reason I don't like that Ruston is our GM is because Smith should have cleaned house of any remnants from the previous regime and really started anew. I'm not that down on Ruston because he does have experience BUT I know that Smith could have done better.

 

You said same thing about CJ yet he is averaging almost 5 yards a carry this season and has more yards than any of our backs as a back up.
