    Detroit Lions – 10

    “The Thanksgiving Day Massacre”

Coming off their first loss of the season to Brett Favre and the Jets – the Titans got the run game going in a biiiig way, playing on Thanksgiving Day for the first time since the 90’s.
Titans score 5 touchdowns in the first half, including 3 in the 1st quarter alone.

QB Kerry Collins did not need to do much, only manage the game as he did for most of his Titan career. Despite 5 touchdowns, Collins was responsible for none of them – finishing with 127 yards and 0 TDs.

It was the running game that gashed the Lions on Turkey Day.
Chris Johnson and LenDale White both scored a pair of TD’s each to go along with 100+ yards each on the ground. The Lions defense had no answer for “Smash and Dash”.

The Titans finished 13-3 that season while the lowly Lions went 0-16 in 2008.

    1997

    Tennessee Oilers – 27
    Dallas Cowboys – 14

Troy Aikman and the Cowboys entered this Turkey Day game with a chance at the playoffs. After the loss to the visiting Oilers – the Cowboys would not win a game the rest of the year – finishing 6-10 , while the Oilers finished the 1997 campaign 8-8.

Much like the more recent Lions massacre game, the Oilers did most of their damage in the first half and then let off the gas in the 2nd half. Tennessee scored 24 points in the first half and only a 1 field goal in the 2nd half – but was enough to win thanks to a swarming defense.

On paper Troy Aikman scorched Steve McNair on the stat line.

Aikman finished 356 yards 2 TDs but 3 picks – while McNair had only 81 yards with 1 TD.
The Oilers could not cover star receiver Michael Irvin who had 5 catches, 118 yards and 2 TDs.
The Oilers used the running strategy (much like the more recent Lions game) as Eddie George rushed 34 times for 110 yards.

Marcus Roberton's 42-yard touchdown fumble return with less than two minutes before halftime stretched the Oilers' lead to 24-7 and all but sealed it.

    1992

    Houston Oilers – 24
    Detroit Lions- 21

    1988

    Houston Oilers – 25
    Dallas Cowboys -17

And before this a 1970s win over Dallas again

Seems like the Titan/Oiler franchise has a good record going in Turkey Day games.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE- time to eat!
