I am looking at 3 things. The protection. How long Mett held onto the ball. Were the WR's getting open.

    2nd Quarter - 11:26

    Sacked for 5 yards

Time with the ball: 2.57 seconds

What Happened: Right DT pulls and takes on Schwenke and Warmack. Warmack helps at first but then just kinda, moves out of the play. DT makes it up the middle, keeping Mett from stepping up when Oher gets beat by Dumervil.

3 WR's going deep on the left, TE/WR crosses from the right. This is possibly the ONLY place Mett could have gone with the ball. It wouldnt have done any good though, the WR did not have his head turned.

The line didnt hold long enough, no WR's were open. The only option would have been for Mett to throw it away. Defense did a good job.

    2nd Quarter - 6:43

    Sacked for 11 Yards

Time with the ball: 3.46 seconds. This is a playaction

What Happened: Schwenke gets beat (again). No WR's were open. This play looks liked it was designed for Hunter. If this play lasts .5-1 second longer, then Hunter kills the CB here. If Mett makes the throw and catches him in stride, it would have been a TD. This play simply took too long to develop. Again, only option would have been for Mett to throw it away.

    3rd Quarter - 2:44

    Sacked for 8 yards

Time with the ball: 2.32 seconds

What Happened: Lewan simply gets beat. 3 WR's to the left, one on the right. Wright is open for a short gain, but it would have hit him in the back of the head. He glanced at the QB, then took off to try to extend the route.

    Quarter 4 - 12:22

    Sacked for 4 yards.

Time with the ball: 2.74 seconds

What Happened. Oher gets bull rushed. Mett tries to step up but the rusher does one of the most blatant facemask penalties every in the sport, that didnt get called. Again, no WR's open or even with their head facing the QB.

    Quaterter 4 - 3:40

    Sacked for 2 yards

Time with the ball: 4.06 seconds. This is after he slides away from a sack at 2.92

What happens. Good edge rush by both sides, Mett steps up. Left WR gets free and Mett see's him. He tried to set himself, then inside rush pushes his own player into him. The WR was open, but Mett could not get set to throw the ball.

    Overall observations:

My biggest concern was whether or not Mett was seeing the open guy or not. It appears that either our plays take too long to develop, or the Oline could not hold enough for the play to develop. That is no longer a concern, at least for the plays he was sacked.

Mett goes through progressions. I saw him get 3, and possibly even 4 deep on some plays.

Mett threw a few inaccurate balls as well. There were also, at least, 2 batted balls.

    _____________

I am still going to go through and look at the second half and figure out if its a Mett or Wr problem. On the sacks, it just looks like the plays took too long to develop. When I look at the second half, Ill pay attention to the plays that were not the sacks and come back and give another opinion on whether or not the WR's are getting open and Mett is missing them, or they aren't getting open.

If anyone else uses all 22, feel free to chime in with any disagreements. Its quite late but I tried to be accurate. Tomorrow I will use a stopwatch for better accuracy on the sacks.

sacks in the 3 second range are hard to pin on Zach. More telling of our offensive line problems than it is how our rookie QB is doing.

We may be in line for another early round pick on an OL. I could easily see RT, C, and either G position looked at.

Holy hell that hurts to type. We should be bulldozing any team that lines up in front of us with all we have invested.

Five seconds seems to be a long time to get the ball out. I'll be interested to see if a stopwatch makes that any shorter. I thought Whiz was about getting the ball out quickly so assume he just didn't see open receivers. I can't blame the OL for anything that is taking more than 4 seconds to develop.

I'm sure his brain is full right now. He's working through progressions so, hopefully, the game slows down for him as he gains experience. He's going to have have to slide in the pocket to buy time or learn to throw the ball away.

I agree, but Mett's biggest criticism was how long he held onto the ball. Even then, it is hard to tell what went on and if it was Mett's fault. If no one is getting open, which is believable, taking a sack is better than forcing it.

Accuracy is something I am not overly concerned with right now. He didn't have accuracy issues in college, could probably chalk it up with learning the system right now.

I don't believe you can teach "pocket awareness". Mett CAN see and make the plays if our WR's separate and the OL can perform at least average. He isn't very good at extending the play. So any chance of Mett being successful is dependent on the quality of our pass protection. Mett is NOT like Big Ben in that regard.

You throw it away before taking a sack — especially on the play that nearly was a safety.

Hopefully. But I also think we have to consider that he's not seen much pressure during his college career and, obviously, not in practice. He also had some solid talent to throw to at LSU.

I'm trying to remember if it was Chow or another Titans OC but I recall them having a trainer blow a horn after X seconds after the snap to get the QB to realize how fast he needed to get the ball out. It also let the receivers know they needed to be at a certain point in their routes and looking for the ball.

Getting everyone in sync just didn't seem to happen much after the first quarter. Maybe Al can see how the Ravens adjusted in the All-22 that changed things. Did we even try to run a screen? I don't remember.

It's spooky to think what LeBeau might have in store. At least he won't have Pollywallamallou baiting him like he did Young.

I'm not sure how familiar you are with LSU while he was there, but he should be used to pressure by now. Our line is basically, if not better, than what he had at LSU.

I saw him play a few games though don't recall how good the LSU OL was. I do remember he had some serious weapons to throw to which means he saw more separation than the typical college QB. We all know that tighter general coverage is one of the bigger adjustments for any new NFL QB to get used to.

I just looked at the All-22 of just the first drive...

Mett missed on his first two attempts badly. On his first completion (Walker), he was wide open and had stopped and turned to him. Pretty easy pitch and catch.

His next completion was the one which was impressive. The sideline ball to Wash was his third read and perfect timing. No hesitation on that pass. He looked like a experienced pro.

The next two were a quick ball to Walker followed by one in the middle he dropped over the LB to Walker. Both were the first reads and executed well.

I dont think our WRs have the awareness of the defenses to know when to cut routes short and look back to the ball. I think they are drilled so hard to run a route to its completion that they dont adjust to help the QB out.

Watch the Colts...they always have short routes, crossing routes....the WRs are always looking for the ball.

If we have to consistently have 3+ seconds for a WR to "get open" we are screwed plain and simple. We dont't have WRs that can do that.
