Yeah I think you always take BPA, only exception being if you need a franchise QB. For that I don't mind the occasional reach. Only due to the importance of that position.

That's why I was fine with the Lewan pick after I slept on it. If the dude was the BPA you take him, regardless of if you drafted OL in the 1st last year. Just because a particular position isn't a top priority now does not mean it won't be 2, 3, 4 years down the road.

But seeing as how we have no skill at any other position, it doesn't really do much to get that good LT. If they have success at finding a QB, and every other position, then it's a great pick.

If Warmack and Levitre remain themselves, then it doesn't do much good to have a good Tackle, and every other OL position be horrible.

I just think the organization underestimated how horrible this entire team is. They thought the T pick would be icing on the cake.. instead, he is the only starting NFL worthy player on the line.

Hated the Warmack pick, don't like the Lewan pick. He only looks good because everyone else has been so bad. League average would look great in this line.

But compared to Chance.. it's a homerun.

BPA doesn't work if your GM and scouts can't actually judge who the best players are. Seems like a lot of you are overlooking that.

I have no doubt they judged Warmack to be the BPA. I have no doubt they judged wrong.

I get your point. I'm just saying if he turns out to be an elite LT for years to come then he was worth the pick, regardless of how poor the rest of roster is currently. You gotta look further than 1-2 years when using your 1st round pick. In 4 or 5 years this offensive lineup will most likely look almost completely different than it does now anyway. If he can be a 5-10 year anchor on that line then he was well worth it IMO. Again, if.....

ya. Knowing this org's track record.. I could see him being a Joe Thomas. a good OT on a crap team.

G&T picks are not game changers, generally. And they have invested heavily (2 top 15 picks and a large FA contract) into this OL, and it's been bad. 2 top 15 picks should change a franchise's core and direction for the better. I don't feel that These guys have done that. No fault of Lewan thus far, though.. although I still don't like him personally.

So many wasted picks.. so many wasted years.:disappointed::shakehead:

I don't disagree with much of what you're saying. But the bottom line is if we hadn't blown that pick on Warmack, the Lewan pick would not have been nearly as criticized. Yeah, two 1st round picks should change your franchise. But it's not Lewan's fault that Warmack is a bum and Webster is a moron.

For the record, I don't really like Lewan as a person but I believe he could be a hell of a football player for use.

Chance is a mama's boy, so I hope his mother sees his games and slaps the sh*t out of him. That might help..

I thought Warmack was gonna be a good player, and I still despised that pick. Now it's just hilarious.
