He was well known as a malcontent because he didn't want to be a WR, he wanted to be a DB... and in reality, he wasn't good enough to be either in the NFL.

Titans wanted him as solely a WR.

Here's a hint of proof from a bit of googling.

"Williams just does not impress as a receiver, as you can plainly see he is not happy on offense. With his previous experience and family bloodlines on defense, he would be better served playing cornerback, but needs to sit down and do a gut-check to see if he has the heart to play the game."

He obviously didn't. He was a big mistake. He should have never gotten a training camp invite.

His bullcrap didn't get much ESPN airtime (or any airtime) because he was a bad player. But I remember hearing plenty about it at the time. He had no passion for the game, and gave up when he knew he was stuck at receiver. He had Eric Crouch syndrome.

    The worst part:
The Titans KNEW THIS before they drafted him.. and did it anyway!!!!

Kevin Dyson had our 2 most memorable plays in history, but he did not pan out to be what was expected of him as well and he was selected before Moss that year.

We did have a consistent (probably HOF WR) that we let go in his prime and should have kept him. He went on to have several more 1,000 yds seasons.....D-Mase was the man!

Good for him, though. He got to have success in his career. It would have been pitiful if he were stuck here much after 2003, with how horrible this team has been.

This is not a great trade for the Titans. Ayers didn't fit anymore and we moved up into the 6th so I guess it doesn't suck...

How many picks do we have now? Did we give away any picks in 2015 for Mettenberger? What did the Cowboys give us for Edwards?

    In 2015 - we've got NE's 6th and gave our 7th for Ayers. We got Cowgirls 7th.

We gave up our 2014 6th and 7th for Mettenberger.

That was predraft write up by someone else besides CBS, and while it may be possible, that entire paragraph was opinion which didn't state anything about his attitude.

That article states we should have made him a DB, a position he's not played since maybe pop warner? He was drafted as a college 4 year WR due to his measurable and the nasty P word... Potential.

I agree he didn't pan out, but Fisher wouldn't have put up with a "bad attitude" as we have seen with many players while he was here, especially if he wasn't any good. Just ask Billy Volek...

he did put up with Britt, Pacman, and quite a few other morons in his time. Quite a few players were malcontents towards the end of his run, including Jevon Kearse in his last stint. He didn't do anything about Vince Young, who was the definition. Volek is the only case I remember where he didn't tolerate it, as far as I remember.

If I recall, Pacman wasn't a team problem, but a legal problem.

He couldn't do anything to VY until Bud said it was ok. From what I remember he tried and tried and tried to get rid of VY and it wasn't until they had a public locker room blowup that it finally ended.

As for Kearse, he got benched and left after his "angry" year with Fisher. So they did get rid of him, just not immediately. Many players were upset with Fisher, so that's not really an issue. Let's be honest, Fisher and crew pissed off quite a few players.
