The ball hit him in the friggen hands. You know what's more accurate than that.... a handoff.

Well if you just said play younger players I support that.

So even on the premise of tanking you wouldn't support the extremes I suggest. What if fear of fines or punishment from nfl was removed, would you support it then?

Yep and he disappeared after that play....that was at least a 40+ play or even a TD and I thought it was one of 3 plays that we missed that would have changed the game around completely.

That's the story far too often. At the risk of oversimplification, the team who makes the fewest mistakes and makes a couple of plays usually wins the game. We all know the Titans are struggling to do either.

Hunter is a tease. He gives you reason to think he's ready to be a difference-maker one minute only to disappoint the next. Coaches are not going to call his number until he shows some consistency.

Spot on....he reminds me a bit of Tyrone Calico, only with a bit more pedigree. Calico was a tease as well before his injury.

No, I don't support making a complete mockery of the game.

Tanking is this weird thing where you still have to try to win, you just do it with bad players. The whole integrity of the game falls apart if you actually try to lose by running backwards, etc. As far as I know, no one has ever attempted that in the NBA or any other major sport (and I doubt anyone will). If they did, the franchise would be in deeeeep trouble. Commissioners won't stand for that.

The correct way to tank is to try to win but play all your backups and third-stringers. When a guy gets hurt, you hold him out until he's 100%. You say you want to evaluate everyone on your roster.

That is allowable because it doesn't circumvent any rules about competitiveness. It's slightly unethical, I suppose, but not enough to get your franchise in any trouble.

There is plenty of precedent here. NBA teams tank all the time. It never happens in the NFL because coaches have way less job security than in other sports, but the Titans are in a unique position where they are perfectly set up to do it.

So truthfully, you don't want us to tank the season at all. You just want us to play younger players to evaluate their talent even though that gives us a slightly worse chance of winning the game. I really don't consider that "tanking" and I doubt anyone here would disagree with the idea of a vast rotation of players in order to evaluate talent. That's what Whis should be doing.

IMO the term "tanking" implies the intent is to lose. I think the term "long game" better represesents the idea that the higher priority is to evaluate young talent while allowing them to gain invaluable game experience. It also allows coaches and GM's the benefit of direct observation in a gametime environment which is invaluable for them to build the roster in the upcoming year(s).

It is a form of delayed gratification which more often than not requires denial of the immediate gratification of the win.

I don't mind us doing it, but for God's sake can at least ONE of Ruston Webster's picks or FA's offer some glimmer of hope of quality? That is where I have rapidly lost faith in the organization. It isn't that we are losing as much as I haven't seen ANYTHING (other than D. Walker) that indicates to me the Titans know how to acquire talent.

That's exactly what tanking is. This isn't some new concept I created. It is widely discussed in other sports.

There would be a few more elements to it, like not necessarily coming up with the best game plan possible and instead focusing on practicing your core plays (sort of like how teams handle the preseason), but that's the bare bones of it.

I'm using "tanking" in the NBA sense. You know you will lose games because you intentionally don't field a competitive lineup. But you don't shoot at your own net. You just tie your own hands so even your best effort to win won't be enough.

    That's what "tanking" is.
