    Wow ... harsh but fair.

I don't look at stats but as a rule of thumb for me , a guy that with two minutes left , two time-outs left and 70 yards to go for the gamewinning touchdown ,will get there 6 out of 10 and come damn close at least twice.

If you'd have watched Rothlisberger over the last two weeks along with Romo and/or Brees then none of those , although "franchise" guys , have looked like that tag at all.

We've had Mcnair and then for the most part of his tenure Moon. Since then ...zip.

To help things along you need a balanced offense that either run or recieve profitably and a defense that will shut opponents down to under 20 points most times. It all helps build the "franchise" tag for the QB.

The point is to get away from...playing at a high level. How do you define that? How many bad years (ala Eli's zillion INT year) can a QB have without losing his 'franchise' status?

Are the guys in the next tier franchise QB's or are you saying they are not? Or are you saying all of these guys are?

Jay Cutler isn't elite by any means, but he's somehow making over $100 million.
    Lucky dude.

Franchise QB in the most simplest terms is a guy the franchise trusts to go out there every single Sunday. They can put up crazy numbers like a Brees or Peyton Manning or they can manage the game a bit more like a Russell Wilson or Andy Dalton. I don't really think there is a certain stat, it's just how they perform on the field. One of the biggest factors is consistency. Can the team depend on the QB to stay healthy and come out ready to perform every week? Health wise has been a plague to some teams (like us) and consistency an issue for the Tony Romo's and Jay Cutler's.

Well Dalton has been abyssmal in the playoffs. Does that factor into his 'trust' and consistency as a franchise QB? It's funny, most people who talk about franchise QB's mention the top 5 or top 10 rated QB's. The question is, where is the line drawn and why?

So because Romo and Cutler have been inconsistent, are they franchise QB's? They certainly have been paid like they are.

The Cowboys win games when Tony Romo isn't throwing, that doesn't sound at all like a franchise QB.

Basically this. Any quarterback that earns a second contract is a 'franchise qb' in mmy book.

A guy that is consistent week in and week out. Will play the majority of games and has one thing that he's top 3 in the league at. Also a guy that when your team is facing him up 6 with 1:22 left on the clock you just know that you lost and you aren't even that upset. Guys who's will to win is second to none and you can damn near feel it through the TV

    Franchise guys

Manning- beats you before he steps on the field with his preparation.
    Bree's- insanely accurate
Brady-just won't lose also extremely accurate
Big Ben, Luck, Wilson keep plays alive, tough and are willing to get blown up to get a first down wether it's in the first quarter or fourth.

Guys like Cutler, Flacco, Kaepernick, Rivers, good QBs but I'm not counting on those guys to beat me in the 4th quarter and I'm not suprised when they throw a game ending interception
