Mettenberger Time?

Find me a Whiz lover on here....We all have our issues with him, but let's face it, he is better than Munch and co. He also hasn't been given a great roster. That being said, his decisions and play calling has been suspect. I just want to start the weeding out process on both offense and defense. I am also over the Locker project, enough already! 4 f ing years gang!!!! Tell me Mett or anyone behind him isn't appealing at this point?!?!

 

This is an accurate description of where the divide is in the debate.

Some advocating that winning should be the highest priority even if playoffs are unattainable. Others feel the games should be used to better our team for the future when playoffs are again a viable option.

The middle ground is WHEN are playoffs unattainable. Some have seen enough to feel confident we are there right now. Others want to hold out for mathematical elimination.

I think most can agree if we lose one or two more division games then we are extremely unlikely to overcome the overall record required to win our division. At that point, (around the bye on the calendar) I'm betting the majority on this board would be willing to emphasize game time should be used to better evaluate our roster for future needs.

 

I really do believe that Mett gives our team the best chance to win NOW. The way I see it our best chance to wins games is to start him. This isn't because he's some amazing phenom but because I highly doubt he'll be worse than the other two guys we've played at QB.

 

That's really the crux of the issue.

Mathematically EVERY team, even the 0-5 Jags, are still "in it". But realistically we know that there are already at least a handful of teams who you can bet the house aren't going to make the playoffs. Sadly, we are one of those teams. I think if you take off the two-tone blue shades and look at it objectively anyone would have a very hard time believing this team is going to make the playoffs.

Sometimes you just have to apply some unbiased logic instead of clinging onto biased optimism.

 

Hope (and hype) are how franchises manipulate the fans. We deserve better than we've been getting. I'd like a dose of reality.

There is a reason the Colts only spent one year in the dumps. They realized the importance of playing the long game.

 

The crappy thing is, if Mett isn't the guy I'm not completely sold on any of these QBs coming out at this point.

 

I'm not sold on Mariota playing at the next level.

However, I would take Cook or Mannion in the second
