Blidi Wreh-Wilsonis dealing with a concussion. But I suspect he's had that concussion since week-1, only explanation for his play.

I gave a higher grade to the DL for a few reasons. First, mostof our run D problems are not on the DL, but the LB's doing the right run fits and not blowing tackles. Against Indy and as with KC, when the LB's or S's fill correctly, we have a pretty good run D. When they don't, we get gashed. Also, we've gotten more pressure from our DL then our blitzing LB's so I give them some credit for that.

LB run D has been pretty good in 2 games and bad in two games. We've gotten some pressure from Morgan and some pressures from our ILB's occasionally, but not enough. And this has been the catch-22 with the secondary. We don't have the pass rush yet to take the pressure off our secondary and our secondary isn't good enough to handle good QB's with a lot of time to throw. Brown being out has really hurt!

Secondary is a mixed bag. McCourty has been solid for the most part and finishes this quarter with 4 pd's and 2 INT's. Sensabaugh has been ok and Pollard has too. Blidi has been picked on - giving up a ton of yards, td's, penalties and not made the plays yet when given the opportunity (like pick 6-ing that pass to Dalton or laying him out). Griffin has been blowing tackles as usual in run D and for a FS who is athletic and fast enough to play cb, he gets beat a surprising amount when asked to play man on anyone. All this for what...$8mil a year? He has made the occasional good play but his mistakes far outweigh his positive. I would shake things up and start Wilson over Griff and start Sensabaugh over Blidi (slide him to nickel). While Blidi has allowed the most damage, it's also his first year starting so I expected some growing pains and I think (hope) he will get better with experience. Still, we need to do what we need to do to win NOW!

We may need to get a top notch pass rusher at OLB in FA or the draft or both!

I don't understand your favoritism with Griff. Pollard LEADS the team in solo tackles so not sure how he could be WORSE than Griff. Pollard has given up as many completions as Griff has but missed very few tackles. Griff seems to blow several a game! Yes Pollard dropped a pick, but he is outplaying Griff. Griff is not terrible but he's on the side of being part of the problem rather than being part of the solution.

And saying griff tackles as well as he is going to tackle is actually a stinging indictment of him. If poor tackling is the best he can do then he should not start!!!

Gut, can you please tell me why Horton keeps playing Griffin or Wilson as the box safety instead of Pollard. I have seen it quite a bit, I would think Griffin being a centerfield er and Pollard as more of a natural strong safety would seem to fit their skillsets better.

Well, there's a few reasons I'd guess. First, sometimes there is motion so the S's will flip responsibilities. Second, sometimes bringing Griff up makes the QB think blitz or man coverage. Sometimes we want Griff tight to play an athletic or faster TE. Sometimes it will help disguise the real coverage. And sometimes we want a faster player blitzing off the edge and short of a nickel blitzer, Griff is faster then everyone else. I have seen Sensabaugh come off a short edge and he has used Pollard and Griff blitzing off the short edge at different times (but these were run blitzes).

It looks to me that Wilson takes over a LB spot in sub pass packages to give us a better matchup against faster TE's, RB's or spying the QB. In some zones, a middle zone defender can be asked to take the first or 2nd crosser and if it's a TE or WR...we have a little more speed to defend it. He's also probably better at reading route combinations and should have better hands than an ILB.

But I don't want Griff near the LOS. I'vee seen too many missed tackles and a lot of times when he's up and outside, he's the contain player and then we get gashed outside. Pollard is much better at attacking the blocker and the ball carrier and TACKLING. Then again, if Pollard is playing CF, it's less likely someone can get past him as he is a high effort player and one of the best tacklers on the team. But I would much rather let Griff play a deep zone and stay away from tackling anyone short of dragging down a WR after a pass is caught. I would rather see Pollard near the LOS doing his thing as playing him in CF doesn't play to his strengths. But these are sometimes strategic, not just tactical decisions. Field position for instance may also play a part.

I think you are a little generous with the RBs otherwise I pretty much agree.

They were talking about BWW today on the Zone about how he was drafted as a "physical corner" and how contact rule changes have nullified why we drafted him.
