There are many reasons NOT to do this. The salary cap situation just removed the largest one financially.

Find me a team that drafted 2 QB's in the first 3 rounds and made it worth their while? The Pats didn't...and don't they always get the better deal? Oops!

Here's the biggest issue. You can't truly develop 2 QB's at the same time - certainly not during the season. So either you give the vast majority of reps to one guy and then you don't really know what the other guy can do or you split the reps and put both QB's behind the 8-ball. So how do you do this?

Then, what happens if they are both good? Only 1 can play so you're developing a QB for another team because he will leave to start on another team. What happens if one is good and 1 is bad (assuming you could figure this out easily)? You wasted a high draft pick you needed! What happens if neither are good? You've wasted 2 high draft picks?

As you may have noticed, we don't have a plethora of talent to be throwing away a 2nd or 3rd rnd draft pick on a tiny chance he could be a starter or perhaps more.

Look at the top 5 QB's for the last decade and who have been top 5 QB's for more than 3 years by QB rating. How many of them were drafted out of the 1st round out of how many QB's have been drafted outside of the first round in the last 10 years (same time table)?

You could expand that to how many QB's have been top 10 QB's or whatever your definition of a 'franchise' QB is. Is it an average QB (by passer rating)? Is it a top 10 QB?

But the likelihood of you hitting on a top QB with your 2nd or 3rd pick is quite small. But even if he turns out to be a player, it STILL could be a waste of a draft pick! Wasting talent is not something we can afford!

Depends on who it is, what we'd have to give up and what it is for.

I would not trade for a QB this year to win this year as that's not gonna happen. Then the problem becomes, who do we KNOW is good enough to trade for as opposed to drafting someone vs the current talent on the roster.

I haven't really looked at QB's around the league that I think could be available so do you have an example(s) of what you were thinking?

can either of you to explain how its ridiculous why people want to run the ball more when we can barely pass it?

nothing about running the ball more in our situation was ridiculous.

We do need to run the ball more as it is our only strength right now. Seems like our OL is better at run blocking than pass blocking. Plus this would take some weight off our QB. Also some dinks and dunks with some screens are conservative plays and an extension of the running game which we need to do more of.

Our problem is we are getting blown out quickly making us one dimensional and that is not our strength right now.

Need to really pound the Brownies this week and get that confidence back

No need to explain, as that was not my point (please reread my post). My point was not about the merits of going run first in the situation (hence the phrase "Not saying that I disagree here"). My point is about the incredibly short memory of many on this board who were complaining about the exact opposite thing last season when begging for a coach who was more pass first. That is what we have now.

    1. Let Michael Griffin shine my shoes for a living and not play safety
    2. Memo to Whizz - Play anyone but Levitre in his position.
Use Sankey more and have a run-bassed offense while Locker is still here - which ain't long.
    3. Sack the entire scouting team and re-appoint.
    4. QB in the first round 2015 draft and then defense all the rest ; bolster offense through FA.
    5. Go play Golf

Maybe my post wasn't clear. I wasn't advocating drafting two QBs in the same draft. Or even necessarily in back to back years. I'm just saying you are no longer tied to one guy for 4-5 years anymore. You can draft a QB high every 2-3 years until you find your guy. We've wasted the last 9 seasons on 2 guys who didn't work out.

As for the "wasted picks" comment, well it wouldn't be the first or last time we did that. Hate to be cynical but it's the truth. A few glorious seasons from CJ aside, when is the last time we drafted a true superstar in the first 2 rounds? And if there's one thing I wouldn't mind "wasting a pick" on it'd be trying to land a legit franchise QB.

I'm not sure who mentioned it above but I think trading for Brock Osweiler would be a smart move. He's been a sponge from Peyton for a few years now and he has great poise. Before I moved to Nebraska, I lived in Arizona for work. I went to three or four ASU games with work buddies when Osweiler played there and I was really impressed with him. He is massive (6'8 I think) which gave him great field vision and he made good decisions. On top of that he has a strong enough arm to make all of the NFL-needed throws. So yeah...I think Brock would be a good choice for a trade.

The hitch-in-yur-giddyup to all of this is that we've got NO ONE with exception to Walker for him to throw at. So, it's all for not.

Unless of course, we want to draft/trade for a few wide-outs too.
