Yeah, you expect the occasional bad day from any QB. But this was just SO bad it's going to be really tough for me to shrug off or forget about.

If we're being honest that performance went well beyond your typical "bad game". It's not like he just missed a few easy throws or made a few bad decisions. He was completely erratic and looked as if he'd never even been on an NFL field before. And we're talking about a 4 year vet.

I heard Whis say, in a roundabout way, in the press conference today that even Roethlisberger/Rivers/Warner had days like Jake did Sunday. Now, I can't say I follow(/ed) them as closely as I do the Titans and our QBs but I find that hard to believe. Sure they had bad games where they made some bad decisions and made some throws they'd like to have back. But I can't recall ever seeing any of those guys be so consistently off the mark with their throws as Jake was yesterday. It was downright cringe-worthy to watch.

So we blamed the coaching when Locker played like ass last season and now some want to put yesterday's debacle on Whiz? Wow. We have a brand new staff that was cosigned by everyone including this entire board and got rid of the "problems holding us back". Maybe it's not the coaching, maybe it's the often erratic and inaccurate QB who keeps teasing us with flashes of brilliance. Mett might not be the messiah he's made out to be, but I bet everything I own his can play better than Jake did yesterday. Really anyone could.

I agree, and I don't expect him to never have a bad game on occasion, but this isn't just a fluke game for Jake. He's consistently inconsistent and has never been able to establish a track record that suggests otherwise.

In fact it's just the opposite. He'll tease you with an amazing game or drive or a perfect pass only to look completely befuddled the next moment. There's a difference between an occasional bad game and a guy who occasionally has a good one. Jake seems to be the later.

I still stand behind Jake and I still hope he turns into the franchise QB we drafted him to be but that hope is fading fast and quickly turning into the realization that he's just a good athlete who couldn't quite get over the hump at the next level.

I agree, he has to start stringing more good games together than bad ones. So far in his career he hasn't been able to do that yet.

It honestly felt like after Jake made his first read he didn't know where to go with the ball, he panicked and let the ball go erratically hoping our wide outs would make a play. That is not what you should expect from a 4th year guy!!

The fact that people have to make "i told you so posts" every time Jake has a decent game is very telling. It's been 4 years. Good/great games should be expected, not pleasant surprises.

Jake was hearing footsteps and rushed his throws. I believe we had a lot more pressure on Romo in the first half. Sadly, if the game was close in the second half.....we would probably have had at least 7-8 sacks by our defense yesterday. We just couldn't stop the run yesterday at all and that really worries me more than Jake does.

I don't think Mettenberger gets the keys just handed to him if we move on from Jake but I do think Whis likes him and will at least give him a shot. Which is why I don't really see us going QB in the 1st next year, unless Mett has already proven himself to be unworthy. Because you wouldn't waste a 1st on a QB if you think you could already have "the guy" on the roster. I think it's either Mett vs. a vet in next years camp or we go ahead and move on from Jake and Mett (as potential starters) and ride or die with a 1st round rookie.

While I can totally understand why people don't see Mett as the second coming, personally I don't see why so many fans seem willing to completely write the guy off already. He made some mistakes in the preseason but overall I think he performed well above what you'd normally expect out of a QB drafted so late. His main problem seems to be he holds on to the ball too long. And that's something that could be an easy fix as he gains experience and adjusts to the game.

I'm by no means sold on Mett as our QB of the future. But I'm definitely intrigued.

I agree with this, and also agree that CBJ gets the nod IF Locker is hurt early this season.

However, I do see a scenario in which Mett jumps CBJ. If Locker continues to struggle and/or it becomes obvious that our season is going to end after week 17, I see Whis starting Mett to see what he can do before deciding on what to do at QB in the offseason. I agree that either Locker or CBJ may still be the better gameday choice at that point, but Whis will be looking beyond the gameday choice in that scenario IMO.
