The NFL is standing up for the NFL. They want female fans. If they alienate women, which I doubt this would have done to a significant degree, they lose money.

Yes- this is why you have to respect our LEGAL system. The NFL doesn't give a chit about women, the NFL cares about women's ability to spend. It's :bs:.

I think the cops/district attorney were afraid for this tape to come out and that is why they did not turn over the tapes to the NFL when they asked for all evidence associated with the case. The DA knew that he would look very weak for the horrible plea deal that he allowed Rice to have. I think the NFL did a horrible job of investigating the the incident on its own because if they had sent one person to the casino elevators they would have known their was a camera inside the elevator.

His wife sounded exactly like a DV victim to me. Blaming everyone but the actual person who did the deed. Domestic violence often times has more of a psychological aspect than physical aspect, and I thought she came out sounding like a lot of DV victims sound like. I hope she is smart enough and brave enough to get out of that relationship, but it certainly isn't that easy often times.

It's his world their ripping apart. She's just a part of it because she chose to continue riding his coattails. Besides, even though she may be fine with him knocking her out it's still very much illegal and a big deal to most of the civilized world.

He deserves every bit of what he's getting right now. You KO a woman in public, on video, and yeah... there's going to be a lot of fallout. As for her, I do feel bad for her. Besides just getting KO'd by a man who is a professional athlete, I'm sure it's tough to be portrayed as the poor, pitiful victim by the entire world. And I'm sure she does love Ray and has forgiven him. But that doesn't change the facts. What he did was still very wrong and still very much deserves APPROPRIATE repercussions.

That said, I do think his career is over because of this and that is perhaps somewhat unfair. He wasn't nearly the first NFL player to slug his gf/wife, just the first one caught on tape. So it wasn't able to be swept under the rug and forgotten about like all the others. Yet I am convinced that if this exact same thing happened to someone like Drew Brees or Aaron Rodgers they would no doubt get a second chance. Because they are faces of the league and because of the position they play.

I just refuse to buy the incompetence explanation. The NFL is a very powerful/intelligent organization that even has their own team of investigators. They've been involved in many, many cases both less and more severe than this one. There is no way in hell that they did not attempt to get the tape from the casino IF they put forth a legitimate investigation. Which IMO they did not as Goodell was probably more worried about his lame "protecting the shield" agenda than he was with doing what was right.

Here's what I think.... I think, whether he actually saw the video or not, Goodell knew EXACTLY what happened on that elevator. And I believe he spoke to the Ravens, Ray and possibly Ray's wife/fiance, and came to the conclusion that since she was not pressing charges and "forgave" him that this could be downplayed to the public and eventually forgotten about. But he wasn't counting on that video ever being made public. And he wasn't counting on the sleazy company called TMZ giving a damn months down the road.

Vick plays the most important position on the field. Rice plays arguably the least. I don't think he'll get another chance simply due to how replaceable and diminished that position has become. Oh well. I ain't crying for him. Just saying he's not the first and he won't be the last player to pop his wife. I just hope teams stay consistent in the future if he is indeed blackballed (they won't).

Of course he intererviewed Ray and his wife together, which is just insane in that situation. Of course she isn't going to blame Ray while he is sitting right next to her in a room full of men. Goodell handled this horribly, and my guess is that he is going to end up losing his job over it.

    Let's hope.

Hopefully no other major storyline overtakes this one and he can continue to feel the pressure and scrutiny. The public/media is fickle and can move on to the next thing to be outraged about in a hurry.
