Clay Travis out at 104.5

tl;dr - Travis had been getting other offers but wanted to stay at 104.5 but Cumulus made an insulting offer (a $5,000 annual raise) so now he is walking.

I know he's a divisive personality. He's a smug smart@$$ and there are definitely times he gets on my nerves. But overall I'm a fan. Love him or hate him, IMO he was far and away the most unique personality on the entire station. Which was refreshing on a station where most of the hosts are about as interesting as watching paint dry.

This seems like a terribly shortsighted decision by Cumulus. I like Bishop and Daugherty, but without Clay the 3HL becomes just another bland, run-of-the-mill sports talk show. Be interesting to see who they bring in as a replacement. Won't be shocked if it's Kuharsky.... but I hope not.

 

I think they'll try to replace him with another brash personality. That's why I could see PK happening.

I hope they don't go that route. But more so I hope they don't bring in yet another vanilla host who you can't tell from the guy sitting next to him.

^ That's a valid complaint. But honestly that's what made it different and interesting IMO. There's only so much you can say about the handful of sports topics of the day on a 3 hour show. Particularly during the "dead periods" of the sports year.

I know taste is subjective but 3HL is the only show on 104.5 I've found particularly engaging and entertaining over the past several years. Hell, if I didn't know all the hosts' voices I'd have a hard time telling the morning and midday shows apart. It's all just the same vanilla sports talk you'd find on any station in any city across the country. Clay made 3HL stand out (for better or worse).
