I'm not saying that Mett will turn out to be Farve. The Falcons certainly didn't know how good farve was going to turn out to be when decided to keep Chandler as the starter and trade Farve away. If Locker is our guy after this year, then teams are going to look at Mett as a possible future starter. Do you take a run at a 2nd rnd rookie QB in the 2015 draft or trade for a guy who has shown he can make the throws.

My main thing with this thread has to do with the gameday roster and how the #3 QB is actually the 46th man on gameday. But #3 can't play unless the other 2 are hurt. If Locker goes down for a few series if Mett is #3 then he can't come in and play. If Mett were #2 he could play a few series and then Locker could return when ready.

I just think that CBJ needs to be our #3 and coach up the 2 young guys who actually might help the Titans improve in the long run.

    Mettenberger could be Favre-ish-like...

Here's the deal on Mett; I had him on my big board for the Titans to draft. I didn't even have Manziel as a guy I'd take in the 7th round, but Mett was up there for me. Out of all the hundreds of players I set eyes on last year, Mett stood out to me as one of the better football players.

So yea dude has all the tools to play QB.

Here is the thing though ... If Locker only goes down for a few series, do those few reps that Mett is would get really have any value? I would say very little. In fact, it seems that for a rookie QB that has never played in an NFL game, and doesn't have the benefit of taking snaps with the starters during the week, that it would he would almost be set up to fail.

If Locker only goes down for a few series, or even if he goes out for the rest of the game I think I would want CBJ in there. ONLY because he isn't a rookie. The game shouldn't be too fast or confusing for him. He is used to being a back up, and used to coming in 'cold' ... Mett may not be able to handle that situation as well.

Now if Locker is going to miss GAMES ... then I say start Mett. Those reps would have a lot of value, especially since Mett would be given a lot more time to prepare rather than just being thrown in.

I really like what we have seen in Mett so far, and I would hate to put him in a tough situation like that to start his career. I think Mett could be very good, and I think it will be interesting to see what happens with him and Locker after this season is over ... but I think he would benefit from time on the bench, and wouldn't want to risk throwing him to the wolves cold. How about for once we actually set a young QB up for success instead of failure

Make Mett #3, then if Locker goes down for any substantial period of time promote him ahead of CBJ.

Zach should be backup but Whitehurst will be. Whiz has a man crush on him for some odd reason.

    Here's the deal.

Mett IS our QB next year unless EACH of the below occur:

    1) Locker plays the entire season without injury
    2) Locker plays exceptionally well and we make it to the playoffs
    3) Locker signs an extension for around 10M/year
    4) Mett stinks it up and/or gets in trouble.

A lot of thought went in to not extending Locker. His option was too expensive for too much uncertainty. He was Munchak's guy, not Whiz's.

As far as this year, I have no doubt Mett will be our #2 QB by game 6 at the latest. We'll see how Locker is fairing. Advancing Mett to #2 by game 6 will let him be better primed to take over if/when Locker is injured or we appearing out of playoff contention somewhere around games 10-12.

I agree. I have a gut feeling that Locker is going to stay healthy all year this year. And if Jake stays healthy, I think he will have a big year ... which is going to make things interesting in the off season.

Assuming Jake does stay healthy and has a stellar year, I think our FO will be put in a tough situation for a number of reasons

How much will Jake demand? ... I know a lot of people say "oh well, Jake's not about the money" which may be true to an extent. But when you are an FA (which Jake will be), then of course you are going to go for the best situation AND most money you can get.

Would the Titans be willing to pay Locker a 'Dalton' contract after just 1 year of good play? Especially if they feel like Mett can be as good or better for MUCH less money, money that can be used to build the D.

And I can almost guarantee that some team would pay big $$$$ to Locker if he has a big year. I mean, just look at guys like Flynn that got big contracts after a couple of good games. QB is the most important position on the field, and teams over-value and over-pay for it all the time.

On the other hand, QB IS the most important position on the field, so if you got one that is playing well, then it is hard to just let them walk away.

Of course the franchise tag could always be used to delay this decision another year.

WE would be so freakin dumb to let jake go if he has a good year and just assume mett will be good vs 1s like he is vs 3s.

I can't believe all these "mett will be our qb in 15 and beyond"

Ya he's suprised a few people. Best qb in preseason. But mariani was a preseason stud his first year too.
